Lacquer / Vinyl repair on bathroom cabinet

Morning all, Just wondering if anyone had any experience in repairing chipped lacquer or vinyl on a basin cabinet? I've no idea how this has happened, but there's a lot of chipping behind the basin of the sink in one of the bathrooms. I noticed it bubbling slightly maybe 5 months ago but have...

    Door Handle Refixing

Hello all, Apologies if this isn’t the right place to post this, but I’ve just had the door handle to my kitchen door come off in my hand and the exposed wood behind is in a right state - see pictures. Any advice on how to fix that mess? I’d normally drill out the screw holes and glue a dowel...

    Marking Gauge advice

Morning all, Please excuse my idiocy, but I’m having trouble marking out a wide piece of timber with a marking gauge. I’m sure there’s a simple answer and I’m being daft, but any help would be appreciated. My gauge, pictured below, has a screw on the block that clamps the block down whilst...

Thanks for the extra detail D_W I was looking at CBN wheels that would fit the grinder linked above - this one - and can't seem to find any 200 x 20 x 16mm wheels 'on the shelf'. Axminster have wheels of similar sizes, but the closest seems to be 200 x 32mm. I did email a couple of firms who...

    Proper Default Frog Position

Hi all Just after some advice on the default position of the frog in jack and smoothing planes. I found a blog post by Paul Sellers which has images of cutaways showing his preferred default alignment here - flush with the back of the throat. Is this the consensus positioning? Both my...

    Sharpening

I did that same course around 6 weeks ago, in the same shop, but with Nick Thompson who I think bought the shop from Chris, or did a joint venture, a few years ago. He still champions Chris’ work, so much so that I immediately bought his book when I’d left!

Sorry to continue questioning, but when you say 'full speed' 6 inch grinder, is there a set speed it should (or shouldn't) exceed? I'd rather not drop £4-500 on a Tormek before I know i'll get benefit out of it, but there's grinders available new on a certain brazilian rainforest themed site for...

On this 'dry grinder & course wheel' method, are you referring ideally to an 8 inch CBN wheel used without a water bath?

Out of interest, which Tormek did you go for? and which attachments do you need for plane & chisel sharpening alone? Still completely undecided but wanted to price it up out of interest

When you say it's 'slow', I presume it's much quicker than hand-grinding?
