Axminster Basingstoke due to close because of "dramatically increasing costs"

Unfortunately the same has happened in Axminster, the lovely shop was closing on my last visit and they are just using the main warehouse on a trading estate on the outskirts of Axminster. I understand they are changing their name to Axminster Outskirts Tools..........

    Bandsaw dust extraction

Hello, Mine was exactly the same, dust everywhere. I also had a Kity 619 table saw, that was just as bad I sold them both on. The working would just get solid with sawdust, and that was using a powerful extractor. The replacement machines, a Startrite bandsaw and a Bosch table saw don’t have the...

    Lifting Internal manhole cover

Hello The dilemma you will be faced with is how to tile. The manhole recess has been filled with concrete to match surrounding floor. One can tile and cut to manhole edge and drill holes through tiles andfinish with plastic plugs. These installations are common nowadays so if you are using a...

    Axminster AW355WL Lathe.

Hello, There have been a lot of reports of these machines braking down and if you look on a Bay one can see many advertised as broken needing repair. I had the idea of sell my old Thyme machine but very glad not to, I simply love it, it must be 40/50 years old and runs like new, Regards

Workshop Interior - suggestions and critique

Hello, Dust and sawdust extraction is something you should consider. Plus I would allow an area that could be a multitask area for metalwork, and paint spraying. This would involve welding, metal grinding etc so it would be good to have an area that one could keep separate. Further an air...

Where to get wood in the UK? (specifically Devon)

Hello, A great source are charity shops, they are full of “brown” furniture that the modern world no longer needs. Solid mahogany chests, oak wardrobe, pine table etc. They will even deliver for a small fee, break up in garden and store in workshop. One thing you will be certain of that the wood...

MFT hinge system storage or not

Hello, There is a very simple answer, some of the fittings require fastening from below so you have to lift the table top to access them to fit. It is very annoying to have screwed the worktop to the frame because you soon realise this is a mistake. The storage box for fittings is great but it...

Should I buy a spindle moulder rather than router table??

Hello, I can recommend the compact Trend router table that sits either on your workbench or somewhere else like a workmate. Very easy to use and takes up little space. I can take it outside for big jobs such as trimming some iroko planks and use some stands to support the timber. Spindle...

    Tyme cub

Hello, I have a spare Nova scroll chuck that came off my Tyme Cub lathe. If you have not got a scroll chuck it would make life easier. Not using it as a I replaced it with a new one a couple of years ago so this older version is available and has the correct thread to fit. If you search Tyme Cub...
