    Should you silicone lino?

We have a new lino being installed in a bathroom and I'm wondering if the edges of the lino and around the toilet need to be silicone? I ask as by chance I saw a video on YouTube from B&Q where they apply silicone around the edges and around the toilet. When I spoke with the lino installer he...

    Possible drain block issue

We had a leaky toilet. A plumber came over and removed the toilet from the wall, refitted the seal and resolved the issue but introduced a new issue. A few weeks later we can smell something foul from the toilet (sewage smell). I poured bleach and the issue seemed to be resolved. A few weeks...

What board for inside cupboard for shelf

As per the title, what board would I require to use inside cupboards as shelves? I'll cut them myself and inside the cupboards it would be supported by some wood drilled into the wall so all I would do is cut to size and then sit them on top of the wood attached to the wall and screw in. I'm...

    Correct foundation for a shed?

We have an area of grass where we don't get a lot of sun and considering changing it to a hard floor such as slabs. In order for the slabs to be stable, strong and not dip or sink in etc, what type of foundation mix would be required to ensure there are NO side effects later in the years of I...

Water sitting in centre of shower tray

We've had a new shower tray fitted recently. The waste is located on the bottom right. I ran some water in the tray to ensure the sides didn't leak and noticed the water running into the waste. This seems fine but a few hours later (almost 24 hours) I noted the water dried up on the sides of...

    Installing Mira shower ERD

I have a shower which I want to replace with a new Mira ERD shower. What I've noticed is the wall brackets that are supplied with the shower don't need to be fitted as the pipe coming out of the wall is the same as the wall bracket supplied. If I use a concealing plate and put it over the...

Correct way to reduce gap from door

We've had new floor tiles put in which has caused a gap to appear at the bottom of the door as the tiles are much thinner. I've seen some draft excluders but they don't really look very nice at the bottom of the door and wonder if there is an alternative way to cover the gap. The gap is...

Screw bath to wall clip recommendation

Our bath is moving ever so slightly and I've noticed this is because the original plumber did a cowboy job by drilling in screws. I've attached an image and looking for some clip which I can screw into the wood bit (the underside of the bath once I remove the side cover) and the other end into...

What sealant should be used before tiling?

The shower wall is bare and I wondered is there anything that should be applied around the shower tray, so before any tiles are applied the tray is fully sealed on the sides and edges to eliminate any water leak issues? Thanks

    Moisture resistant plasterboard equivalent

In our shower, the tray has been moved prior to tiling. This has left an 1 inch or so gap between the plasterboard and the shower tray. I thought to get some moisture resistant plasterboard from B&Q stick that and then Polyfilla it on top but they don't sell it in small pieces but an entire...

    What silicone for a kitchen?

So we all know about the grease, temperature in a kitchen etc. I'm thinking about removing the old silicone from the windows and thinking about applying some silicone to the edges of the wall cabinet to give it a nicer finish (it's never had them before) after recent painting. Which would be a...

What is the correct paint for kitchen ceiling?

What would be the correct white paint to select for a kitchen ceiling? I called B&Q who said any paint labelled with ceiling paint and when I went to B&Q asked their staff in person for them to point out which ceiling paint as they had loads, they said any with a bit of silk in as although it...

    How to smoothen wall paint

Back again! I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or tricks for this issue. The kitchen wall was painted years ago. New tiles were then added. I've now removed these tiles and can see the tile glue has removed some of the paint leaving the wall paint uneven. I tried to sand it down but I can...

    Temporarily stop shower

Were having our bathroom tiles replaced and one of the tasks is to remove the shower temporarily. I can't turn off the water for the shower only so the only way is to turn the water off completely then remove the shower. If I do this the water will start to run once the water turns back on so...

    Trickle vent issue

All the windows have a trickle vent and every year mainly during the winter we have the same issue where we can hear mild noise but more importantly the heat escaping even though the vent is closed. I know the recommended advice is to leave them as is but I'm wondering if there is a better way...

    Ideal boiler central heating setting

We have an Ideal boiler (combi) with 2 settings on the LCD display that controls it. One for heating the water the other for the central heating. As per the instructions that were given to us years ago we were advised to leave the water setting to the on status so when the tank gets low on hot...

    How to adjust one radiator?

When the heating is OFF we have one radiator that remains slightly warm all the time. If I turn it off using the side dial on the radiator it turns off but I can't seem to control it from the primary thermostat button like the rest of the radiators are controlled. How could I resolve this?

How you remove paint from ceiling in shower?

The paint within the shower was peeling so I used the paint I was provided with and gave it another layer. It peeled again and after a few coats I realised the paint is not correct so bought a new emulsion paint tub which resolved the issue. I'm now painting the same ceiling again after a few...

Can I add anything to the floor before new carpet

We're changing our carpets and I wonder even though we are purchasing the underlay and carpet is there anything else I could apply on the floor to keep the rooms warm in winter and maybe too much heat out in the summer? Anything worthwhile I could add?
