    Wood stove: Insulating above the closure plate, is it common? Good idea?

    The only problem with vermiculite type materials is when anyone has to go back in for repairs or suchlike. All those little pearls will escape everywhere. That is why I only use fire retardant insulation rock wool type. FWIW.🤪

    Ones marked HT are ok, (heat treated) Don't use any with B on them, as they have been chemically treated with Bromium. Obviously be aware of what they might have been carrying- as in pesticides or chemicals. Otherwise, you can cut them apart with a "Sawzall" type saw- if you don't mind nail ends...
