    Rutlands Warning!

I’ve had a few things from Rutlands, in obsolete packaging. They came in cardboard boxes. The non-obsolete stuff must be some space age dung.

    Chip extractor 100mm - quiet

I have the same unit from another ‘manufacturer’ and it’s also horrendously noisy/whiny as you say, and not that impressive performance wise. I’d just assumed it was a cheap motor/design… and I just use a small festool vac instead whenever practical to do so.

    4x2 Equivalent in Steel Section?

Hi All I’m wondering if anyone would know what size/type of steel section (likely a C profile) would be an equivalent replacement for a 4x2 piece of CLS16 timber? Intended usage would be to form a bed frame. Currently it’s built from 4x2s spanning between sides of a van (around 150cm span)...

    3M Cubitron.

Same abrasive doesn’t wear like that on any of my powered sanders or hand pads. More often edges go first due to clumsiness…

    Tarting Up Ceiling Beams

True, we opted for triple glazing instead of the fancy electrics though. We had 8 replaced when the roof was done last year so will hopefully be someone else’s choice next time it’s due!

    Tarting Up Ceiling Beams

So I thought I'd report back on progress.... I tried a lot of the tips/suggestions above, but in general any kind of chemical (stripper, oxalic etc) gave very inconsistent results. The beams had various kinds of accumulated finishes (bits of paint, various stains/varnishes in various colours)...

Large drill bits - why so long?

Huh - so a smaller pilot bit would also have a similar 'non cutting' tip, but it would be smaller and therefore have less bulldozing to do? For the record I do pilot drill and work up to larger sizes but understood it as the process of removing material bit by bit that made it easier.. Although...

Large drill bits - why so long?

I understood the rest of your list, but are you saying large bits don’t have cutting tips? Or it’s likely to be blunt at the tip, or at least blunter than a small pilot? I don’t do much metal, and feel I might learn something here!

    Steel strips from plate?

I don’t enjoy metalwork much, but when I have to I’ve used this place.. they do ‘free unlimited cutting’, delivery, and have been accurate enough for me! https://www.themetalstore.co.uk/products/1-5mm-thick-mild-steel-sheet

A tape or similar to cover something on mdf

Yeah I use it as rim tape for tubeless as well, never fails!

A tape or similar to cover something on mdf

Gorilla tape? It’s black and I’ve never seen it come off anything voluntarily. Just cut it nice or you can get loose threads that are white-ish..

Triton Router - TR0001 - Can you over tighten the collet??

The only thing that should prevent starting is the physical lock on the switch when swapping the bit. There’s no sensor or magic, it sounds broken. Trying so hard to not ‘over tighten’ sounds like a recipe for a bit in the face…. When I got my Triton it was my first router, I didn’t fully...

    Dovetail jig opinions

I have a dovetail jig that my late father bought, and put in his shed. I emptied his shed and it’s now in my garage. I don’t believe it was ever used! Had some rust spots but I cleaned it up some, it’s 300mm, comes with various template sizes and a cutter. Happy to take offers on it...

    Festool registration issue

If you didn’t upload a pic the form wouldn’t have valdated so it wouldn’t allow you to continue. That said, I did two last week, it did seem a bit flakey reporting the number as invalid when I submitted one, and a simple back button and resubmit made it work!

Rotex 90 Slat Sanding Pad - Why this shape?

Exactly, you can do the same rotation thing on both (well, with the sandpaper only on the slat sander - paper and pad on the ‘standard’ delta. But there’s more velcro area on the slat one….

Rotex 90 Slat Sanding Pad - Why this shape?

I have a Rotex, with the slat sanding pad I purchased to reach some awkward areas... it does this well. However - the shape of the 'hook and loop' section is larger than the v93 sandpaper - there's a rectangular extension towards the rear of the pad. A quick google didn't reveal that there was...
