Clarke 37" headstock spindle thread headache

Hurrah! It was the correct diameter and thread! All working now! Hopefully I can make a bigger one of those soon 😇

Clarke 37" headstock spindle thread headache

Thanks a lot for the ideas guys! Thanks @Phill05 I've ordered a die, hopefully that fixes it! I'm assuming the chuck must be worn, somehow, if it goes on and off very easily?

Clarke 37" headstock spindle thread headache

I counted 16 per inch on the arbor, so I think it's correct. Using a die might restore them to the shape they are on the left, but since it's the bit on the right where a new 3/4 16tpi faceplate actually does screw on, I wonder if there was another "shape" of threads, which is not at all what...

Clarke 37" headstock spindle thread headache

Thank you Phill, no problem, that was an incredibly kind offer anyway!

Clarke 37" headstock spindle thread headache

Sure! It does look like the thread has been flattened on the right side. I've added pics of my chuck as well.

Clarke 37" headstock spindle thread headache

Hello, I got a free Clare 37" wood lathe not long ago and I'm really enjoying exploring what I can do with it. However, it didn't come with a faceplate and I am trying to find one that fits, so I can turn bigger bowls with a stable hold. From all the documentation I found that the spindle is...

    Inca bandsaw

Thanks Jerome. It looks great, maybe I need to invest in a bench-top grinder, now! Although it will be fiddly to sharpen a 9mm blade at 10 TPI :D

    Inca bandsaw

Oh I know it's there! Thank you. (Inca | Woodworking Machinery & Accessories) But at over £70 for a pair of little metal bushings, I wondered if there was a cheaper way to get them. I'm French, so thought it would be cheaper to get them delivered to family there and pick them up later, but it's...

    Inca bandsaw

A quick update: my saw works rather well! I think I do need new blades though, as the ones I got with it, although "feeling" sharp, probably didn't like the rust removal process, and I'm burning through white oak even on straight lines. Also @sometimewoodworker I do feel like I'll also need to...

    Detached garage modernisation/conversion advice

Actually, you're luckier than I am. Mine doesn't even have a slab underneath. It's just some sort of screed that I can chip away at, and it's not levelled. If the slab is in good condition, I'd waste no time in your case and flatten the area for a fresh rebuild.

    Detached garage modernisation/conversion advice

OMG! @Persephone I've got the exact same garage which is in the same state, including the ivy crawling on top and lifting the roof! Striking similarity!! The damp is so bad that it's growing fungus and a lot of my boards are rotting because of it! I've sealed all the joints between the slabs...

    Inca bandsaw

I have everything to learn about this one! Hence joining forums and asking the experienced owners 😇 All this will become apparent once the machine is cleaned up and rebuilt. I don’t think it needs much.

    Inca bandsaw

This is a fair point. I paid £350 for mine (£50 was John’s), and given the overall condition, is still not a bad price. I hadn’t seen the state of the holders, especially the cracked one. Difficult to do in someone’s garage on the fly. The saw did run alright at the time. Just to be clear, I...

    Inca bandsaw

Hi everyone, I know this is an old thread but it seems to be THE place for information about an Inca 342-186. I'm the proud owner of one of them, and I've started the cleanup process, and I noticed that the blade guides are in poor state. Judging by the state of the guide bearings, the...
