    Importing machinery UK to Ireland

Read the Irish newspapers, watch TV, talk to various tradesmen. That should give you the answers that you demand. I've no intention of rising to your bait. What an absurd question!

    Importing machinery UK to Ireland

There's a big shortage of ALL tradesmen in Ireland at the moment plus very little young blood coming through because most if not all the snowflake generation don't want to dirty their hands. It's a desperate state of affairs and no sign of the government pushing to turn things around. Galway is...

Don't ask me how I know! 😉 What part of Ireland are you moving to?

    Importing machinery UK to Ireland

Hi, absolutely the best way to do this is to enter the "island" of Ireland via Scotland through one of the Northern Ireland ports of Larne or Belfast. As there is free trade movement between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland you will be able to bring your items into the Republic...

    Pillar drill identification

Hi, try this eBay item number 185036165019. I'm not sure if it will suit your machine though. However, if you put in "drill return spring" in eBay search you'll find a number of different size quill springs listed and hopefully you will get one that suits your machine. Most but not all seem to...

    Pillar drill identification

Lovely drill. Simple to do anything to. If the data plate is still on the drill get on to Meddings who will date the drill based on the data plate info. Your base looks like a typical Meddings base. There were variations of bases. Best of luck with your purchase. You've done well. Looking...

    Axminster price increases

That container is now costing in excess of £15k to ship. VAT and import duties to be based on the increased shipping amount. You are correct about supply disruption. Now you can see how prices are on the inevitable upward spiral. Suppliers this side of the world then have to pass on the extra...

    Axminster price increases

So true. I try to buy and use old but good quality British machinery rather than new, cheaper and generally lower quality, throw away Chinese imported stuff.

    Axminster price increases

You are absolutely right about the shipping cost increase for containers worldwide. There is actually a shortage of shipping containers worldwide. China is now turning the screw on the world. Inflation is about to ramp up everywhere and we the consumer will have to pay for it. Those previously...

    WANTED - Belt/Pulley Guard & Single Phase Motor for a Meddings Pacera MF4 Mk2 Pedestal Drill. L@@K.

I recently purchased a 1963 Meddings Pacera MF4 Mk2 pedestal drill. It's more or less complete except that it's missing the belt/pulley guard. I'm looking for the correct belt/pulley guard for my drill. It's the pressed, round type with 2 stud fixing as opposed to the slightly smaller single...

Adventures in metalwork and machine restoration!

No unfortunately it's the pressed rounded one. :( Yes I'll keep watching eBay. A Meddings pressed rounded cover came up on eBay recently but it was the slightly smaller single stud fixing type. I can certainly understand your problem with room for spares! :giggle:

Adventures in metalwork and machine restoration!

I'll check this evening. Great thread which I've enjoyed reading from beginning to end. You've a great eye for the old machinery. I've a recently purchased Meddings MF4 Mk 2 floor standing drill that I'm trying to bring back to life. It's missing the pulley/belt guard which is the the 2 stud...

Adventures in metalwork and machine restoration!

My vice is the very same as this one but I was unable to figure out the make of it. Now that I've seen yours I'm going to do a bit more checking of my own vice. Using it is a bit weird compared to your typical Record vice but a cracking vice none the less. Nice one!
