I just bought a Holzmann HOB260ECO and it is very… meh - help on aligning it?

Just sharing my experience. It is a classic 1500£ level design where the tables fold to convert to thicknesser, it’s heavy and robust, what makes it meh is that it makes marks on the finished piece and it didn’t come dead square from factory, in a 250mm plank, the difference of thickness is...

    Do biscuits add strength? Solved!

I wish he tested similar to real usecase, torquing long pieces as in a table stretcher i.e. that’s what matters to define the structural stability of your build.

Any (post 2008) Economists in the house? - Inflation.

Overall China progress plus Covid are pushing countries toward more estate and closure. Brexit and Trump already were cultural manifestation of the closure, but done wrongly. Now US is investing 90Bi in semiconductor, Nasa budget is highest since decades, and so on, which is the better path...

Any (post 2008) Economists in the house? - Inflation.

I cannot not think of Blade Runner whenever I read that or think about China expansion. but countries are shifting to defend their industrial parks, that will reshape multinational capitalism.

Any (post 2008) Economists in the house? - Inflation.

have you studied in depth how China plans and organize its economy? They show a very intelligent planned economy that has no free market, but state filter to what lives and what dies, plus it was designed to exploit international capitalism.

Any (post 2008) Economists in the house? - Inflation.

stocks market is rich’s protection to money erosion - even more then that - there are forces that pushes money print just to keep stocks growing - what kind of insane society shows stock prices on tv news as a proxy for growth?

Gluing end grain is stronger than you think.

Well, I think things can be severely simplified by looking at the graph he presented: Glue closely is as weak as side grain, long grain is stronger. Now you just need to plain your joints thinking of the leverage you will apply to the side grain or glued surface. If the leverage is high you...

How interesting - MacAllister track saw clone in US - but black

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07VFXFTVP/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_KBJ9TX4CRYC1X1YFDZKZ A friend asked me if this saw could be any good, I instantly noticed it is identical to a MacAllister - I don’t know what to tell my friend, cannot be sure it will have the same (lowish) quality control the...

Before I buy PAR hardwood from G&S online.. would you recommend me to look somewhere else?

I did yeah. Visited all sites that were marked as “sells online”. I have moved to UK from across the Atlantic in January and got no car yet, since I live from walking distance from work I might not buy one soon. Heh. Quite a niche scenario I am in. But I know a mill nearby that I didn’t visit...

Before I buy PAR hardwood from G&S online.. would you recommend me to look somewhere else?

I am new on the craft, bought hardwood a couple times from Hardwood Timber Merchants & Hand Tool Supplier | G & S, it was all right, could be a little bit straighter though, but fine. Now I am about to make another purchase, a little bit bigger this time, and I wondered if I should look...

    timber price

The people of the wrong side of the pond are saying that prices are to fall soon since “timber futures” are dumping. Assuming futures will match real economy and assuming yards and mills will ease on prices without being forced (by oversupply or regulation, ie)

Post a photo of the last thing you made

oh: I also made this plane to assist me with the final touches of the joints above, I rough cut the rabbets of the box above with the track saw, bulk removed with a palm router and for the joints that weren't straight enough I used this Paul Seller's "Poor's Man Rabbet Plane". For the plane I...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

This is more of a Thank You post since people here in the forum really helped me to get started (not only talked me away from what seemed to be very unfruitful paths ('merica stlyle), but pointed me to great directions) Having finished a bench, and gotten a track saw plus planes, I decided I...

How to make decent long-ish dowels at an early home shop?

I am playing with bench dogs :) I will use the dowels to make some jigs... I know the accuracy is not even close to a CNC'd top and jigs, but I am curious how close can I get doing manually, and if I can evolve the tools recursively until reaching a good enough state.
