    High Humidity...dehumidifier or vents??

They look almost the same machine, I assume yours also has the natty cycling vent on the front. Looks to be the water collection that is the main difference. I was getting 6 litres per day out of mine until the RH dropped down to 55%. Now I only run it every third night on high and only get a...

    High Humidity...dehumidifier or vents??

I don't normally post here but I have just had exactly the same problem with relative humidity levels at over 80% in the workshop and so have been looking into the pros and cons of dehumidifying a workshop and some of the info in this thread is incorrect. Ventilation, as has been recommended...

Keith Smith's Part 2 intermediate submission

For those that are interested this is how the chairs turned out However I'm going to give the forum a miss for a while and therefore would like to be removed from the competition. I have been very upset by the way the forum has been run of late and it is no longer a pleasure to look in...

Ok, so my first REAL project

Andy Rae's book is very good, lots of good ideas presented clearly, my only caveat is that it has a very broad scope. For something Kitchen specific I'd recommend Building Traditional Kitchen Cabinets by Jim Tolpin, Taunton Press. This covers just about everything you need to know about building...

    How to trim this?

Personally I'd clean up B and C and leave the rest. This isn't furniture

    Carving or cutting lettering

I print out the lettering with the computer I then use a dry carbon paper but you can get away with rubbing a soft pencil on the back of the paper, Selotape the lettering to the panel and scribe with a ballpoint pen round the lettering. Which should give you a good outline. You should now have...

What's happened to some of our more illustrious posters?

Just to add my support for everyones views. Things are getting ridiculous on the moderation front, and it is ruining the forum

Tim's Part 2 [Advanced] Final Submission [Complete]

Very nice job Tim, can't agree with Dom though, better than chairs  never  How do you go on moving these things about? Do you flat pack them? I've just made some kitchen units a fraction of this size and I can hardly budge them

    AXMINSTER PLUS SBW4300WL BANDSAW???

Lee, check the tyres, they should be slightly convex. If they have worn with a hollow and are now concave that will cause this problem. If there is enough meat on the tyre you can reshape them. Sandpaper on a pad will work. Hope this helps Keith

How to best use Tormek/Jet/Sheppach Wetstone grinder?

With the Tormek it's normal to get a very small amount of water spilling but nowhere near enough to wet the floor; except for sharpening planer plades and kitchen knives when tilting the machine is a good idea. Pity you live so far away, I'd have liked to see the problem first hand.

    Moral Dilemma

Sounds like she is very stressed and unhappy with life in general and you were just the thing she focused on that day. I've had a similar experience, and no matter how much I was reasonable and bent over backwards it wasn't enough. In the end when she came round and told me to be quiet I just...

Keith Smith's Part 2 intermediate submission

Part 2 The chair is a little more complicated than usual because it has curved arms. I cut one to shape then used it as a template to mark out the others. To give a bit more strength to the legs I've offset the mortise and tenons. The front legs are longer than the back and with all the...

    Formaldehyde free veneer adhesive

Hi Joe, Welcome to the forum Adhesives that contain formaldehyde are not banned in the UK. You say they cause cancer, but so far I don't think there has been a definitive study that proved that is the case, for woodworkers anyway. Mortuary workers, who use formaldehyde to embalm bodies have...

    A mad idea????

I've got absolutely no experience of milling metal but aren't there spiral bits specifically designed for cutting aluminium? From a practical woodworking point of view, doesn't the guide have to be perfectly positioned to make a tight joint, won't you need to make a jig to hold it? Where do...

    Axminster heavy duty delivery

Mike it's the fact they knew about the fact I couldn't go and pick it up because I had to finish a chair (I mentioned in a previous post). Showed someone at Axminster looks on the forum, therefore no coincidence I got an email. Alf, I expect the check will arrive in 21 working days. :wink...

    Axminster heavy duty delivery

Roger, I was surprised too and at this price I would have been willing to drive down to Axminster, of course I wouldn't have had a look round the shop too :^o  Perhaps they thought it would fetch a better price if they offered delivery, I've paid £45 and I've had the letter so it...

hinge fitting advice required to save the day.

If you don't want it to protrude you'll be better off chamfering the base and the top (above and below the hinge mortise). Then you don't need to take a massive amount off.
