Buying cheapest wood for woodwork practice in the UK

Quite a lot of wood recycling centres operating as local charities have popped up - you still have to pay but it is obviously a lot cheaper. You'll have to see if any exist in your area. You can also go along to your local tip and see if you can fish anything out of the wood bin. B&Q / Wickes...

    Help: converting 230V (1ph) 50Hz machines to run on 220V (1ph) 60Hz supply

Rather than petrol generator, why not look into one of those large capacity batteries which can output 3KW (Ecoflow I think was spending lots of money on YouTube). No messing around with changing motors or anything like that

Are you already preparing the ads which ask for donations to keep the site running because it costs hundreds of thousands a year :ROFLMAO:

    Cheap Systainers!

Tanos is owned by TTS (who own Festool). I expect these Systainers are a big sell off from covid testing no longer being required (Small edit - yes I remember someone commenting that Vantainer (the distributors of Tanos in the UK) were busy with Covid related stuff at the time. If you look at...

    New company, new career

Fantastic update Martin - I’ve enjoyed your Instagram posts and it’s great to see you growing your business - are you totally on your own now or are you still working for the landscape gardener? It goes to show how word of mouth is the no. 1 for this type of business and now you’ve got a few...

What’s the very best caulk / sealant / adhesive

You could drop a message to this guy and ask him what he uses https://www.youtube.com/@southcoastsealantsltd (Perusing his comments, he recommends the Cox Skeleton Sealant gun and says Mapei is the best silicone)

What are your woodworking goals for 2024?

Yes I think after taking this long my wife might want to keep me in there! Thankfully I have moved all the tools / wood out of the garage which is now the home gym and into the workshop so she’s happy but it now means me doing the inside whilst it’s full of stuff! (Which in a 3x3m workshop...

What are your woodworking goals for 2024?

Well, 2024 is almost here... what do you want to do in the coming year? For me, in May it will be 2 years since I started building my workshop - ARGH. The outside is mostly done so I need to get the inside done before then. So for me in 2024 it's - Finish workshop - Build bench - Actually...

    Softwood for table tops?

My Dad made our family kitchen/dining table out of pine 40 years ago and my parents still use it today. I think he’s refinished it once in that time but it’s done well and as @pe2dave says, dinks, knocks etc all part of the story and history

Best finish for Softwood - to minimise darkening?

Bents Woodworking just put a video out on YT this week about that topic. He was spraying some kind of 2K water based finish on oak - you can look it up, perhaps equivalents are available here as well. I was impressed with what he used, how unchanged it was from the natural oak
