Festool ETS EC 150/5 vs 150/3

Hi I'm looking to buy the Festool ETS EC 150. But I'm torn between going for the 5mm or 3mm. I understand the former is more aggressive. However, is the end finish the same with the same grit sandpaper? Thanks in advance!

Overall , are you happy with the saw?

anyone got the Axminster Workshop AW145CE Cyclone Dust Extractor ?

Hi mate. I have this machine hooked up up a bandsaw and thickness planer. Handles both brilliantly. I’ve no hesitation to recommend. Great machine for the money.

    Plywood for cabinets

I tried Hanson. But their prices were way over Latham’s. It might have been a b/bb grade as oppose to bb/bb.

    Plywood for cabinets

That’s the Latham I went to. Excellent quality birch plywood. When I bought it, the chap on the phone did say that they were having difficulty sourcing it. I still need another three or four sheets. Unbelievable how fast it gets used up.

    Plywood for cabinets

cheers. I think I paid about £120 a sheet for BB grade a few months ago. Expensive but glad I got the Baltic birch. I’ve had stuff from wickes in the past. Sometimes the sheets are really good but other times, absolute garbage. I initially bought from wickes for this project but rejected upon...

    Planer Thicknesser

It planes very fllat and square. Ample for what I need. Just wondered if there was any accepted deviances between the infeed and outfeed tables. It’s the Axminster apt260 I have . Great machine. Would definitely recommend it.

    Plywood for cabinets

Cheers. I’m pleased with how it came out. Never done anything like this before; took me longer than expected. But happy with how it’s turned out. Impressed with the valchromat. Cuts really easy and comes up nice when oiled.

    Plywood for cabinets

I have to look at it , so want something that looks decent. It’ll be there for a very long time. Main thing is the enjoyment from making the units. It’s been a good learning experience.

    Plywood for cabinets

Getting there. The boards available from Wickes were terrible. So, I ended up getting Baltic birch and Valchromat from Latham. Expensive but glad I went down this route. It’s the first time I’ve undertaken something like this. A few mistakes along with the way. But it’s been an enjoyable exercise.

    Planer Thicknesser

Hi Is there a general level of tolerance for how coplanar the infeed and outfeed tables on a planer thicknesser should be when set to zero. My machine is coplanar to within 0.15mm. My gut feeling is that this is adequate. Im guessing it can’t be as flat as hand place as the surface area is...

    Smoothing plane

I’ll more than likely keep it. Good way to get into planing. I’m sure , eventually, I’ll move over to the bevel downs. But small steps 😂

    Smoothing plane

Yes, I remember seeing them there during the pandemic . They also used to stock Lie Nielsen. Only Classictools stock Lie Nielsen in the UK now.

    Smoothing plane

I’ve not used it or opened the box . So a return is possible. The problem is getting a custom plane here in the UK. Fine Tools in Germany appears to be the only place in Europe that stocks the custom plane.

    Smoothing plane

Hi Tom I may yet send the bevel up smoother back and get the veritas custom 4. It’s mouth adjuster takes one complication out of the equation - hate the idea of moving the frog forward to adjust the mouth.

Many thanks for the above. Slightly related (?) , to control tear out, when would you use a plane vs a scraper? I’m guessing the latter is more for localised use?

    Smoothing plane

I had toyed with buying the veritas custom plane. What appealed was the ease of adjusting the mouth and range of frogs. On non-exotic woods ,such as ash or oak, is there much benefit to the custom over the BUS? You’ve said that the BUS is best suited to taking thin shavings. I thought this is...
