    Dovetail jig

I recently bought a cheap dovetail jig from Amazon - it's an identical copy of the silverline jig that seems to have many clones including the Axcaliber from Axminster. Build quality is great and I have no issues with that. Operation is smooth and accurate and the parts look good when cut...

    Titan bandsaw

I have heard many people say this, but strangely mine works ok. When you remove the blade you can lift the top wheel out of the machine and can see the cam that should push the wheel assembly down - I wonder if the cam is just upside down?

    Titan bandsaw

Thanks for the replies. I have been using tuffsaws blades. So this saw is a rebadged Ryobi - and checking the specs for that saw, it says the blade should be 1572mm. So a question for the titan users - does your blade sit neatly in the middle of the guides or is it quite far to the right-hand...

    Titan bandsaw

I wonder if anyone else has a similar problem with the titan (rebadged ryobi) bandsaw? I have fitted a new blade and increased the blade tension as much as possible, but there still seems to be about 4mm too much slack in the blade and it doesn't sit in between the guides. (I have pushed the...

    Sparkey Machine Question

According to the 13a fuse characteristics graph, a 13A fuse could withstand a 56A load for about 6 seconds.

    Planer Accident

Can't help but think that this is an unfair comment. The injury was one that had the potential for significant blood-loss and loss of consciousness so getting immediate medical attention by dialling 999 was absolutely the correct thing to do. The definition of an accident is something that...

Today's newbie question: how to get things level

I don't think you can guarantee the factory edge of a board will be straight. Could your eyes be deceiving you into thinking that it looks wonky when in-fact it is straight?

Can anyone recommend a timber merchants in the Paisley area

Shawfield timber over in Rutherglen maybe? I have noticed that the B&Q stores in the Glasgow area are using Medite MDF which is pretty decent.

    titan workshop vac hose adapters

That is a kind offer indeed - thank you! I think I will try and stick with something off the shelf though as tools are likely to come and go, so I need to try and find something that is cheap and can be easily modified to fit any size and shape of port.

    Timber framing.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! Got the first side framed-up this weekend - hopefully progress should be quicker now that I have the hang of it. Lost quite a few drill bits to skewed pilot-holes though..

    Timber framing.

Thanks for all the replies! So I tried skew nailing (and screwing!) last night - and it definetely makes for a much more secure join. A couple of problems though (1) skew nailing - once the nail is most of the way in it becomes difficult to hammer any further without damaging the wood. Is a...

    Timber framing.

Thanks for replying gardenshed! To be honest, I tried screws first and I found that they were far more likley to split the end-grain than nails - even with a generous pilot hole.

    Timber framing.

I am about to start framing out my new shed/workshop using 1.5" x 2.5" CLS from a B&Q. Any advice on the best way to join the frame members at right-angles? Is it just a case of 2 nails into the end-grain of the up-rights? If so - what size of nails should I use? Oval or round-wire? I have...

    Workshed/Shop plans.

I am currently doing some planning for the roof design of my shed - which I have now decided will be 12' x 8'. I am planning to frame the entire thing using wickes 1.5" x 2.5" CLS timber - simply because it is cheap and most of the prefabbed sheds I have looked at don't have a sibngle piece of...

    Workshed/Shop plans.

So I think I have decided that I will use a concrete base for my new shed - partly because I think it will provide the best foundation and partly because I fancy playing with a cement mixer. :-) After some measuring I also think that I can increase the shed size to 12' x 8'. Any...

    Workshed/Shop plans.

Thanks for this link Alan - that was quite a project! Did you use a concrete base? I'm not sure from the pictures - it looks like you might have concreted some posts in and then built on top of these? Mark.
