Need to streamline my hand tools

This all fits with me. I avoid woodwork like the plague - it seems I only have to look at a piece of wood and it warpes - but my combined electrical & plumbing case(s) almost need a hoist to get in and out of the car. I suppose humping them all about keeps me fit…….

    AVO meter repairs.

I did my apprenticeship working for Rolls Royce Small Engine Division - De Havilland back in the day - early ‘70’s, and we knew them as Hellerman pliers. I remember the wiremen making up helicopter wiring looms on 8 x 4 sheets of ply with just a few pencil marks and a few nails to act as guides...

Check your dashcam ...especially if it's a Nextbase

I don’t think it is quite as large as that. I have mine positioned immediately under the box of bits for the rear view mirror. When I am driving I cannot see it. It’s in a Toyota Corolla.

    AVO meter repairs.

I still have a Hameg 20 MHz storage scope. Must be 25 - 30 years old. Still works, and it never let me down. Got me out of a hole on many occasions. Happy days.

Replacement Boilers & Building regs….Sneaky NASTY rule change?

Sorry Chaps, I should have said it is a combi - dont know about condensing, alhough it does have a drip pipe coming out from it to the drain. The other point is that I am mid seventies, so I am not taking bets on whether it expires before I do.........

Replacement Boilers & Building regs….Sneaky NASTY rule change?

Greatly interested in this thread. My wife and I live in an end terrace property, brick construction, double glazed, built about 1935. Cavity wall insulation, some loft insulation. We have a Vaillant condensing boiler, close to 15 years old. We also have a "Wiser" boiler control system, with...

    Economy 7 and storage heaters?

They were usually wired through a time switch to only use of peak electricity. Didn’t know you could get a dual rate time switch?

    A lightbulb moment, but...

I fitted led 1200 x 600mm panel lights up in our village hall, they probably are on 50 - 60 hours a week, been up for about 4 years now. Never had a panel fail, but had several power packs fail. Fortunately, easy and cheap to replace.

    A lightbulb moment, but...

Another bonus from using led lamps is life. Filament lamps are/were designed for a life expectancy of 1000 hours; leds are good for 20-30 thousand.

Will smart meters be used for the rolling blackouts?

So, if you pay to charge your (EV) batteries, they then use your battery capacity to supply your neighbours, and then you have to charge your batteries again, will that mean you have to pay again to then recharge your EV?

Cleaning old dirty brass clock movement

Not withstanding the great advice on this thread, does anyone know or a “clockmakers “ group/forum/whatever for a beginner? I am just having a first go at making a skeleton clock, and all information would be appreciated. Especially on how to polish the various parts to get that mirror like...

    Screwfix catalogues disappear.

to me the main advantage of click & collect is that I don’t waste time and petrol going to buy something that is not in stock at my local Screwfix. However, having said that, their stock levels often seem to be lower than they used to be. Maybe it’s me. I mainly go for electrical stuff.
