    Osb vs plywood

Yup, nothing fancy, cheapest emulsion I could get at B&Q. I did have a few issues of bits of the osb that contained lots of resin bleeding through the paint but for the purposes of a workshop, this didn’t bother me.

    Osb vs plywood

I went with 11mm OSB for cost reasons. I’ve found it looks fine when painted, while it’s probably not as strong as ply, I’ve not had any issues hanging various things on the wall.

Which wheeled base for new Bandsaw - Laguna 14BX

Only advice I can give is fully test it out and make sure you're happy with it. I ordered an 18bx and spent a year trying to get Laguna UK to fix the fact it shakes massively when running. The top wheel wasnt machined correctly, still waiting on them to tell me how much a replacement costs as...

Sold Wadkin RB 9" Surface Planer

Nice solid machine dating from around 1946. Obviously all cast iron, length of tables around 1500mm. Motor was replaced a year ago with a 3hp 1 phase from Tec motors. Large cutter block features 2 knives which are skewed slightly, gives a nice finish and some impressive shavings (replacements...

    Planer thicknesser purchase advice please

Thanks for the info. Could I trouble you for a measurment regarding the infeed table when in thicknesser mode. My plan is to have the back of the fs30 up against the outfeed/assembly table in my shop. My only concern is the pillar I have at the end which runs power/dust extraction down and...

    Planer thicknesser purchase advice please

Thanks all, I think the Minimax FS 30C is at the forefront currently. Perhaps a used Sedgwick with tersa if I can find a seller willing to ship to NE Scotland. I should say as well, I am currently a hobbyist so machines of this level are more of an indulgance than a necessity. Anything more...

    Planer thicknesser purchase advice please

Hi guys, I'm in the market for a new planer thicknesser. Currently I have a 1940's Wadkin RB surface planer and a Dewalt 733 thicknesser with a shelix cutter head, both of which function well but I would like to recover some space in the workshop. I'm looking at the likes of Hammer, Robland...

    Some staircase questions...

You could potentially look at cladding the existing stairs? https://www.stairbox.com/products/414/oak-tread-and-riser-stair-cladding.html Not used the product myself, as my stairs were beyond repair so I removed completely and built a new staircase in oak. A long project but it was enjoyable.

Anyone have a tabletop CNC? What are the skills required?

So I built my own cnc router over lockdown, its a 1500mm x 1000mm machice, aluminium extrusion construction, ballscrews, linear rails, servo motors etc. The overall process took about 2 years (also had a child during this time which slowed things down!). While I'm not suggesting you do this as...

    Table saw buying advice

I have a Laguna saw but cant cant recommend it as the customer service from the UK arm of the company is abysmal. If your machine happens to be delivered okay then great but if it has any problems they basically refuse to accept any fault and just state its of an acceptable tollerance for a...

JET Jet JDP-15B-M Bench Pillar Drill reviews

No problem, the front panel where the switches are and the top panel covering the belts are both plastic, but neither feel flimsy or cheap. The white section is cast metal (iron presumably).

JET Jet JDP-15B-M Bench Pillar Drill reviews

Yeah the quality seems pretty good, I've got a Jet drum sander as well and both machines have a high quality feel to them. All the castings and metal parts feel robust, like I said mine had a broken plastic front panel when I got it but my guess is that it was dropped or tipped over... So just...

JET Jet JDP-15B-M Bench Pillar Drill reviews

Let me know if there is anything on the Jet you want a closer look at, I can take some pictures/video if its any help?

JET Jet JDP-15B-M Bench Pillar Drill reviews

Yes as far as I know, the specs are the same other than the floor standing part. I do really like the machine, I initially thought it had problems but once I added a good quality chuck and drill bits, it highly accurate with very little measurable runout. I also like the built in ligh and...

JET Jet JDP-15B-M Bench Pillar Drill reviews

I have the floor standing model of the Jet drill. Got it during one of Axminster's eBay used machine sales. Its a nice bit of kit but I paid about £700 for it which is considerably less than its RRP. My issues with it were the supplied no name chuck from Axi was trash, I replaced it with an...

Laguna 18BX Problems - Advice welcomed

Thanks for the replies everyone! I found a video on YouTube of another 18BX owner, this person seems to think their machine has a problem with vibrations as well. I replicated their test with a glass in the same position on my saw and mine is a hell of a lot worse! Interestingly there is a...

Laguna 18BX Problems - Advice welcomed

Yes, but only the amount I would consider to be normal on a machine this size. Theres certainly no visible shaking anywhere on the machine with no blade on and just the lower wheel spinning.
