    Aha sharpening moment

I have been woodworking for three years and my sharpening was always somewhat inconsistent. It did not matter if I used a guide or freehand. Sometimes I got a hair-shaving sharp edge and sometimes it cut wood ok, but it could not shave or cut paper effortlessly. I used a loupe to examine the...

Wood fillers for oak office table top

I think I will use BLO or some other similar oil (e.g. Belinka). I will try the transparent epoxy, plane/sand it and then several layers of BLO.

Wood fillers for oak office table top

I originally did not want to use epoxy, but I got an idea to use transparent epoxy. So all the cracks will be visible and natural, but they will be smooth, so nothing gets into them. Is that a good idea? What should I put underneath the board, so that epoxy does not get out from the other side...

Wood fillers for oak office table top

I was never successful with this method. It always turned into some sort of grey mixture. I started using transparent acrylic silicone with sawdust and the results are much better. But I do not think it will be suitable for such big cracks and gaps. I used it only for minor gaps, e.g. dovetails.

Wood fillers for oak office table top

Thank you Andy, I do not know if I can get this in Slovakia, but I will take a look. I am not in a production environment, so I always glue one board to an existing panel and hand plane the joint, so it is even. Then I glue next board, etc... It takes me longer, but I do not have to worry about...

Wood fillers for oak office table top

Good afternoon, I have bought an adjustable office table base and am about to build an oak tabletop. The final dimensions are 1400 x 850 mm and its final thickness is 40 mm. I would like to ask what some suitable wood fillers for cracks and knots are if I do not want to use epoxy resin...

What is a proper jointing technique?

This is how I originally did it. Bow was pointing upwards, so the concave side was done. Cutting - Gap - Cutting.

What is a proper jointing technique?

Thank you all very much for your insights. Finally, I found two issues. The first and the most obvious one was that the knives were already blunt (maybe after 6-8 hours of use in clean solid wood). As Felder has two-sided knives, I have just rotated them for a fresh edge (they have a...

What is a proper jointing technique?

Hello, I purchased Felder Hammer A2-26 jointer/thicknesser in November 2023. I am overly happy with the machine, but I have some issues that I think have to do with my technique, not with the machine itself. I would like to illustrate it with an example. I am now jointing oak boards for the...

    What machine to buy next

Thank you Deema, I have looked the Sedgwick morticer, but it is too much money (2400 € for the basic model). I would also have to import it from the UK to mainland Europe, which would cost additional money.

    What machine to buy next

Thank you Paul, as I wrote in my initial post, I already have a band saw and I am waiting for a jointer/thickness planer to come, so sawing and planing are covered. I also find table saws intimidating and I do not have space for one, so a table saw is out of the equation as well. Personally...

    What machine to buy next

I was a hand-tool-only guy when I started woodworking, but due to time constraints (my wife does not want to wait forever for new furniture and I do not want to spend so much time in the workshop to get things done), I have decided to introduce some machines into my workflow. I think I have a...

Advice to a 15 yo wanting a woodwork career

Maybe a person does not need to be a teacher/influencer. Maybe he can record silently the production of orders, like Ishitani Furniture, SquareRule, or Kobeomusk. I do not know if their YouTube channel helped them gain more work, but they have very good reviews from other woodworkers.

Advice to a 15 yo wanting a woodwork career

Thank you. Today social media presence means a lot. Consider Matt Eslea, he is a very young guy, but made a strong social media presence, so many people would assume he is a skilled woodworker (as he is teaching online) - so they would be more inclined to buy furniture from him. The same is...

Advice to a 15 yo wanting a woodwork career

I do not know British circumstances, but if I lived there I would: -set up my own small workshop in a shed in a garden, where I could practice (if she does not live in a flat). - target a niche in woodworking where that would meet my needs - study design and find my signature style - create a...

    Hammer A2-26 jointer/thickness planer

If I order a stock version machine, I would think that I am ahead of people, who have not ordered a machine yet under the first come, first served accords, but it is definitely not the case here :(

    Hammer A2-26 jointer/thickness planer

Today I received an automatic notification e-mail, that Hammer A2-26 machines are back in stock and I can order them immediately from their e-shop. As I have ordered this machine, when it was out of stock, they gave me a lead time of January 2024. I contacted Felder sales representative to find...

    Felder Hammer mobile base dimensions

Thank you very much for the advice and dimensions. Maybe I will buy just castors with a hole for screw (see the image below). my only concern is that if I lift the tables for thicknessing operation, if there will be enough stability as the mass of the tables is lifted sideways.

    Felder Hammer mobile base dimensions

Thank you very much. It should be universal for all Hammer machines. Can you please tell me outer dimension of the wheel, outer dimension and length of the shaft? Thanks.
