    Radio for workshop

You can get TMS of Radio 5Live Sports Extra using DAB radio. It’s crystal clear though, so you might miss the old LW background whine.

MFT-style vs. Trad-style workbench design (is there a middle ground??)

This is my bench. It’s a bit too big and still needs some drawers installing underneath but is okay otherwise. I fitted a router insert at one end with a big triton router fitted underneath. The insert is just a simple Lexan homemade job, I just clamp a mdf fence on to the bench top as...

MFT-style vs. Trad-style workbench design (is there a middle ground??)

My bench fulfils most of your requirements. I’m at work but will send some photos through later along with a list of its strengths and weaknesses!

    Wanted Union Graduate Sanding Table

Ah I see, might be a non starter then. Thanks anyway. What you take for it? Just out of interest.

    Wanted Union Graduate Sanding Table

Hi, Thanks, I’m not sure really. There was one on G&M Tools for £145 but I don’t think I could could justify that much. Have you a price in mind?

How to test drive a chainsaw

I’d noticed that. A bot maybe?

How to test drive a chainsaw

It perhaps goes without saying, but take some 2-stroke, chain oil, plug spanner, torx head screw driver, chain file, etc. in case the seller doesn’t have them. And check the plug, shouldn’t be excessively oily or blathered in carbon deposits.

How to test drive a chainsaw

When looking at a second hand saw I would do the following… Before starting it have a feel of the exhaust/engine with your hand as you might be able to tell if the seller has fired it up just before you got there. You want to know that it starts from cold okay. Check the bar and chain. You...

    Wanted Union Graduate Sanding Table

Does anyone have a sanding table attachment for the outboard side of a Union Graduate that they would consider selling?

    Blue roll holder ideas.

I have mine on a vertical shaft to make it easier to use one handed. Pull straight out from the shaft until you have what you need then tear downwards and get on with your life.

Ha! Yeah I think so, they’re not mine though.

    Stair regs query.

Same here. My son likes to store his Lego bricks on the stairs too, which is just marvellous.

    Stair regs query.

Two stringers and the treads are thick so I’d don’t think they would deflect if the risers were removed.

    Stair regs query.

Thanks, I’ll have a look and see if I can find it. It’s not a straight flight, it winds to the right 180 degrees and has a masonry wall the left and behind it. Underneath the part the winds back on itself is a small cupboard with a gun cabinet in it which takes up nearly all of what would be...

    Stair regs query.

Storage in our hallway at home is pretty limited. Persuading my other half to own fewer shoes is a forlorn hope so I’d like to incorporate some storage under the stairs instead. There’s no access to the side of the staircase so I was thinking about something like this… Is it possible to...

    Woodworking Apron

I think I’m a younger craftsperson, though I might be stretching the definition of both. Tool belt for carpentry type stuff, fencing and whatnot, but I much prefer an apron for bench work. Stops me getting blathered in glue and finishes and has handy pockets for pencils, tape measure, little...

Stove, shutters and panelling - WIP

Right, I think the end is in sight. Apologies it’s taken so long to post an update, I have so little spare time at the moment that what was supposed to be a fairly quick job has ended up taking about two years! Once the shutters were installed I made a start on the fitted bookcase to the left...
