    Other uses - Angle grinder.

started with some of the safer adaptions I have seen and then rapidly became more dangerous as he started to use it one-handed pulling it towards his groin ;)

    Rutlands Warning!

The cynic in me agrees that it is probably a marketing 'technique' - the yorkshire / scottish blood in me is happy to pay less!

    Rutlands Warning!

Oh I am sure it is! The point is more that if you are going to buy re-badged chinese kit you might as well pay less for it! I quite like the black :)

    Rutlands Warning!

So today Rutlands have 'factory seconds' sale: https://www.rutlands.com/collections/factory-specials as with any company who are clever at marketing - no idea exactly what that means... however, if you want an air filter / disc and belt sander / bobbin sander / etc. which are are simply badged...

I have a small MFT (one of these without the legs) https://www.axminstertools.com/ujk-technology-multifunction-workbench-for-twist-dogs-717979?queryID=f7879677f227c9444f7244ba1d627e02 sitting on an old dining room table just under 4 foot wide and slightly over 2 foot deep but I rarely use all...

    Rutlands Warning!

I am not sure that registering on a forum and posting your first post by dragging up an old thread and claiming a company to be scammers is really the thing to do... They are not scammers - you get exactly what they advertise and pay for - there are a large number of companies out there who...

    Whisky tumblers -advice please

I made some small tasting glass place settings from cherry recently for a whisky dinner - finished in beeswax - the drops of whisky on the evening went straight through the finish - so I guess you would get one use before needing to re-finish it!

    Scroll saw and laser cutter

You will struggle cutting 20-25mm with a laser… Mine will cut 10mm oak and some of the newer ones make claims up to 13-18mm

How not to drill a pen blank or turning your jacobs chuck into a hammer!

You mean a varnish like the one coming off?! 😀

what to use on this top

Sand it off, then use Osmo worktop oil - I would do two or three coats and give it a light 240grit sand in between… Used that a year ago on our oak worktops in kitchen and utility and they still look great - easy to top up in the future if necessary

    Laser cutting

price of a laser is roughly based on the power power is roughly a metric of how thick a piece of wood it can cut to cut wood you don't want lower than 10w and ideally 20w+ unlikely to be in the £300 range lower priced lasers engrave they don't tend to cut... I have a 5w NEJE - doesn't cut...

    Chip extractor 100mm - quiet

I think I have my route forward - adapter arrived today to allow me to put the festool hose onto the drum sander - tried a few planks and seems to work… Which means that I can simply get rid of the lumberjack vacuum (coming to a sales page near you soon!) - less noise and more space in the...

    Laser cutting

Thank you for your analysis of my post ;) I think that if the OP is looking to move to something automated to replace scroll saws then understanding the main options as laser / CNC (both of which were mentioned) is really rather relevant, not so sure that he will be making a 'huge John Deere...

    Laser cutting

mmm :) you have posted the thread as laser cutting and then you talk about CNC and ask about replacements to scroll saw work... Lasers Lasers are a varied bunch from the cheaper end (Diodes) to more expensive CO2 lasers etc. but roughly speaking they do two things: - engrave (patterns /...

    Chip extractor 100mm - quiet

thank you all for suggestions - I have an adaptor coming so that I can try the shop vac on the sander - if that works it will be the simplest / quietest / least space consuming option... otherwise I might look at the top bag types and possibly whether I can build a housing for it behind the shed...
