    Beginner advice on birch plywood

I got the guys who built my home office to source me the birch plywood sheets. Those guys got me 16 very good quality sheets for £1,200, which included the initial cuts and delivery. £45 per sheet sounds like an absolute bargain. Is that solid birch ply? I ended up using Osmo polyx wax/oil...

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

Although it would have been easy to ask the timberyard to do all the cuts, I wouldn't have learned how to do it properly. Instead, I created a simpler cut sheet for them to break the big sheets down into managabe sizes. One or two cuts in each board. I'm glad that I did that because managing...

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

Yea, I was just being a goof. We get lots of lovely songbirds in the garden. I'll need to do a bit of research into making the holes the right sizes. Don't want a bunch of seagulls in there bringing down the house prices.

    A fun mid-century birdhouse (materials)

To stop being bored during this forever lockdown, I'm planning to build this fun little birdhouse. It's kind of mid-century Frank Lloyd Wright inspired and I'd like to use some materials from that style of architecture. I was thinking a mix of ceadar or teak would be nice for the cladding. Then...

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

It'll probably just be hipster birds with rich parents. I'm essentially gentrifying the garden.

    Building a laminate-faced plywood desk

Not if he's anything like me. :) To be fair out of 50 people in the office, I was the only one who managed to chip the edge. Three separate times!

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

Thanks, anything to keep busy during lockdown. I've only just started planning it. I should probably make another post as I've no idea about what to build it from. Would love to use mid century inspired materials like teak or ceader, but have zero expperience with stuff like that.

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

Would you believe a mid century birdhouse with swimming pool and solar powered fountain?

    Building a laminate-faced plywood desk

It seems like a shame to cover that beautiful birch veneer with melamine. We had the exact thing you are talking about in work and I managed to chip the edge of the melamine within about a month. I've just finished making my own birch plywood furniture for my home office and I decided to use...

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

Wanted to give you guys an update on this. I finally finished the bookcase as well as some other simpler cabinets and a computer desk for me all based on the advice here. The Kreg accucut and my circular saw with a decent blade was a perfect tool for this job. The reason it took so long is...

First time cabinet doors (allowances and hinges)

Wow the minimum clearances can be tiny on these hinges. Also good to see there's clear spacing instructions. I'm going to buy one of those little plastic guides for spacing, but it's good to be able to have a manufacturer's reference to double check the measurements.

First time cabinet doors (allowances and hinges)

Excellent, thank you. I always planned to make the cabinet before measuring for the doors incase anything is slightly off. I'll consider it a challenge to make the gap as small as possible.

First time cabinet doors (allowances and hinges)

Oh yea, I'm a big fan of his stuff. That's actually where I found the info on the blum hinges in the first place. I just thought I'd make double sure before I go doing something wrong.

First time cabinet doors (allowances and hinges)

I have a couple of questions about making some inset cabinet doors. I'm sure it's relatively simple but I've never done this before and I'm struggling to find exactly what I'm after online. First question - if I'm making a simple cabinet using 18mm ply with two inset doors and a centre divider...

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

Great idea to use a jig for the drill holes. A lot of the reason for doing this job is so that I learn how to cut sheet material properly. I was thinking of asking them to cut anything over 1.2m and allow me to cut the rest. I'll know for sure what I'm comfortable with after I've made my test...

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

Thank you everbody for the advice. I know that this is an ambitious build and I'm not taking it lightly. The good thing is I have all the time in the world to get it right, so I'll be making plenty of smaller practise cuts and joints before I tackle the main boards. I've asked if the...

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

Oh, you've got me wrong. The whole reason I'm here is to ask advice. I'm absolutely going to do what you said if you think the floor rig is flawed. What weight of sacrifical board would you suggest?

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

I have a prepared clear cutter guide for myself. It would definitely be worth asking if the timberyard would be able to make the cuts. Especially if I made all the shelves full width, that would be many more cuts to get absolutely spot-on. There won't be a backing sheet as this is a room...

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

Thanks for the advice. I wish I had a tracksaw, but budget won't allow. I also don't have any trestles, just a small bench. I figured the garage floor on some 2x4s would be suitable. It's pretty flat and I don't mind cutting from above. I am worried about it bowing upwards in the middle though...

    Beginner advice on birch plywood

I've decided to create some office furniture from hardwood birch plywood. I've always liked the look of the layered ends and thought it would be perfect to use in a home office space. I have found out however that it is quite expensive and only comes in 2440x1220mm sheets. I have done a fair...
