Hi folks Up for grabs: DeWalt 720 Radial Arm Saw & Kity 1619 Table Saw Both machines have sat unused in my garage for the last 1½ years so their condition is a bit of an unknown. They were working perfectly on last use and were in excellent condition, but have probably acquired some rust in...

    Just catching up!

Hello my old friends. I know it's been ages since I've posted. I look in every now and again, but generally been neglecting my workshop recently. I finally gave up woodworking as a career earlier this year, so can now join the dizzy heights of keen amateur! I've got a few projects planned for...

    Optical Illusion

In line with my recent spate of inane posts, have a looksee at this optical illusion. Focus on the + sign in the middle nice and hard, and the violet dots around the edge disappear completely, leaving just a green circling dot. .................. Weird

It's funny what they pick up...

Today I had some oval shaped pieces of ply in the workshop smothered in grain filler. SWMBO stuck her head round the door and said, "Eeerggh! That looks like a finish Norm would do!" Ah, how I inwardly laughed... :D

    Painted MDF outdoors

Hi folks I am making a blackboard which will spend most of its time outside. The board itself is an ellipse shape, so I'm looking to cut it from MDF or ply. Question is, if MDF is painted (can be oil-based or acrylic), do you think it would stand up to the elements for a reasonable length of...

    Incra - what's the point ?? ;o)

Just looking at the wonderful joints that are shown to advertise the Incra router table fences. Fantastic! Inlaid DTs with the kind of accuracy I've only ever seen with a Leigh. Questions are: Does anyone with the Incra fence on their router table use it for fancy joints of...

A nostaligic diversion (for me that is!)

The last time I made this puzzle, I was 10 years old. I remember being totally obsessed with it when I saw it somewhere (a book I guess?) and just had to figure it out. Had some free time this afternoon, and decided to knock out another. It looks slightly neater than I recall the "prototype"...

    Epoxy as a filler question

Please can someone tell me if I can use epoxy as a filler for large areas? I want something that will set completely clear (or as near as), without voids or bubbles, and that can be worked (after it has set) to a smooth clear finish. If such a thing exists, please let me know. I'm imagining...

    LN Chisels

Please can anyone tell me what the deal is with the LN set of chisels? Axminster are "Currently Out of Stock" and Lie-Nielson are saying 4-6 weeks. Yet I'm sure some of our more gloat-happy members have them dotted about in their photos. (Especially, I might add, non-chisel related photos...

Off for a week to finish this...

I'm off for a week to the land of no-internet-access to finish the project I've been working on for a few weeks now: A bespoke kitchen in oak and walnut with birch ply cabinets. It's been my biggest project to date in every way. I'll post some more pics next week when it's finished. Bye!

    What to do with mahogany...?

I've been given quite a large pile of old mahogany, all sorts of lengths and sizes. Thankful though I am, this isn't my favourite wood and I don't have much inspiration with what to make with it. Mahogany doesn't seem to lend itself too well to more modern designs, which is what I normally...
