    Unwelcome visitors

We have finally got to the point of doing some proper work on the "fly room". we have removed the ceiling and didn't find a corpse. There was the remnants of some nest or other. Lots of vegetation and empt chestnut / walnut shells. We will do the other rooms on the top floor in the next few...

    Nail Guns

Okay, so it seems screws are the way to go. After a dose of Lyme Disease a few years ago and a mild stroke 18 months back I am not so mobile / flexible as I used to be so I was thinking a nail gun would be more manageable but if the result is going to be wrong then doesn't make sense. Thank you...

    First import from the EU

I didn't realise the UK had left the EU... ;) As the UK is now a third party country the goods are being exported so the seller should export ex vat. I ran a small trading company in about 15 years ago and would do this on a regular basis.

    Nail Guns

Hi, I am about to replace some rotten floorboards with chipboard sheets (as a base for a floating floor). I am thinking of buying a nail gun to simplify the process. Any thoughts / experience on the various nail guns on the market? It seems many work with a specific nail size which seems a bit...

    First import from the EU

You should find out about the VAT, if it is already paid you should not have to pay again (the principle of VAT is that the end consumer is left with the largest bill). You will, of course, need to prove it. As the product is being exported from the EU, you may find you can claim the Greek VAT...

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

Yes, the Duck and Cover films come to mind . It is well worth the 10 mins to watch if you don't remember those times. Remember, it is real and not some sort of sick comedy

Cans or Bottles, Can you tell the difference?

I tend to prefer bottled beers over cans. It might be just psychosomatic but whatever makes you happy :)

    Astronomy Binoculars or small Telescope

I believe an image stacker was used. Per my post, I stole that from a facebook group I follow so it's not "my" first attempt, it was the first attempt of the FB poster. I currently aspire to such stuff... but it needs different equipment from stargazing. My current focus is my house...

    Astronomy Binoculars or small Telescope

Agree with Bimo's. I have Celestion Skymaster 20x80's. They are pretty good and affordable too SkyMaster 20x80 Binoculars | Celestron and am pretty pleased. They are specifically made for Astronomy (having very large lenses to maximise the amount of light). I paid CHF 206 for them. Direct...

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

What's the point of a 1/4 bottle? it won't come close to filling a pint pot! :) My grandfather smoked "woodies", he would light them using strips of old news paper lit from the gas cooker (I guess more appropriate for his chosen vice than a zippo

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

I guess the Sticky Malt was "Virol*. The memory came back to me a few weeks ago and I tried to find some online. It seems it was discontinued some years ago.

You guys must be heavy drinkers...

Not if the TV is made of wood (which would be the obvious link to this group) :D:p;)

You guys must be heavy drinkers...

A bottle of the Glenmorangie limited edition "A Tale of Cake" arrived here yesterday. I am not a big whiskey drinker, perhaps having a small glass every few months. I found this one stunning with three glasses yesterday evening. It's not cheap but I am already considering ordering more so I...

You guys must be heavy drinkers...

That says quite a lot about your opinion of American TV. The idea behind a license fee is that production is funded without the need for advertising so viewers do not spend half of their time watching promotions for toilet brushes and carpet cleaners. That's the idea, whether you like it or...

car battery problem, any advice please?

It's a 2006 330 xd (3l strait 6 with lots of "bits") with 136k km on the clock (about 85km miles) so should be just about run in. a year ago we spent about 2k getting it through it's MOT (they're quite strict in Switzerland) but then a few weeks later 3 diesel injectors failed at the same time...

    Bringing goods from the EU

An interesting analogy, however, I see (all) politicians as somewhat different to "normal people". I left the UK in 2020 and now live in Switzerland. I regularly order stuff that I can't get over here but am becoming reluctant to do so as the shipping is so much hassle. Okay, so the impact...

    Bringing goods from the EU

Good luck with your shipping, I had a bit of a giggle about the dodgy trader :)

car battery problem, any advice please?

Ha ha ha yes, we're going to trade our 3 series in March and I will never ever own a BMW again!

car battery problem, any advice please?

This depends very much on the car. I run a Lotus and, if left standing for a couple of weeks the battery dies (the alarm continually uses power which is a bit rubbish). I have installed a switch in line with the battery so I remove a bit of plastic when she's parked up. Problem solved. I used to...
