    Drill Driver Set?

If you are thinking that you may want to buy more tools in the future, it is worth looking at those tools as well, before making a brand choice. I like Makita so when I changed to li-ion I went for the 10,8 volt (12 volt max) basically because I am getting older and I like the compactness and...

For Sale Trailer Free, 5ft by 3ft Bed SOLD

I have now sold this item on eBay for £20 I made this trailer nearly 50 years ago. It was last used about a week ago, albeit with some floor left, so it is still towable. Basic chassis and outriggers seem ok, problem is the outer frame which holds the back and sides. I would repair and use it...

    Fitting Conservatory Fan

My Daughter/Son-in-law are fitting a new fan to their conservatory. Taken the old one down and there is a central bolt, see photo. New fan will not fit to this central bolt. I have not seen it yet but we did a video call. Undid the six nuts in the central part and the four screws in the...

    Lifting Internal manhole cover

I have had another go at lifting the cover. Holding down screws are 8mm, the cover is threaded to take 10mm. Problem is that the threaded part of the cover is thin metal so three of the four have stripped out, despite me being careful. I can see how I could get a good fixing for lifting but...

    Lifting Internal manhole cover

Well thank you for all this useful information. I have now managed to remove the bolts, they came out completely. They are slotted head. I am going to look again at how to lift it this evening.

    Lifting Internal manhole cover

My daughter/son in law wish to tile their conservatory. Tiles bought, tiler coming Friday. Lifted the carpet to find a manhole cover on the floor, see photo. I would like to lift the cover to assess what to do. Dimensions 530 by 680. There are four screws and no lifting eyes. The screws turn...

    Grrrrr...Milwaukee, what a con.

In the 1950’s my mother bought some kitchen scales, got them home and found they were “made in West Germany”. Very disappointed, would not have bought them if she had realised. The scales were very good, lasted a long time. Many years later they did buy a VW car.

The insurance policy is interesting. Would you mind telling us if it is part of your house insurance or a separate policy.

    Laser levels

I have one of the small Stanley laser levels, cubix. maybe. Have found it useful. One use was for a small survey outside, had to do it as it was getting dark as cannot see the red laser in bright daylight. Picture below, it was for a shed, floor leaning against house to left. Ground was a bit...

    Laser levels

To set the height of the laser level I use a telescopic support, fix it between floor and ceiling and use the clamp which came with the level to clamp it to the support. one of these

    Osb vs plywood

It was Buildbase I have a cash account with them. Know them fairly well. For the plywood they initially said £31.96 then looked again. I phoned up a few days ago for a price on the joists and and it was higher, closer to £20 plus vat, (actual price is in my other notebook which is not to hand)...

    Osb vs plywood

On checking the sheets were 11mm or 12mm thick.

    Osb vs plywood

Went to my local builders merchant today. The mixture of imperial and metric measurements is how they refer to them, and the building industry supposedly went metric 50 years ago. All prices are plus VAT at 20%. Bought some nominally 6x2 floor joists, actual dimensions 143x44mm. Grade C24, 4.8...

    Osb vs plywood

Flooring grade chipboard is surprisingly resistant to moisture, I have had pieces lying on the ground outside and it did not swell up and fall apart. I would say it is more moisture resistant than cheap plywood. It used to be cheap but not any more. OSB also used to be very cheap but not any...

    Toilet flushing system

I never like using a valve which has a plastic thread where the pipe from the mains connects, although I have fitted a few. Always concerned about over tightening and damaging the thread or not tight enough, particularly given the massive damage a leak can cause. Now I only fit ones with brass...

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Not read all of this so sorry if repeating something. Li ion cells voltage varies with load, like most batteries, voltage drops as current increases. Li-ion cells generally regarded as 3.6 volts which is a voltage under load. So battery packs are 3.6, 7.2, 10.8, 14.4 and 18.0 volt. So 12 volt...

Advice on removing timber window frame in one piece

I agree, a good bricklayer can get over problems like this, but it involves extra work. From Richards response it appears that the window suits brick length. I was just trying to explain what the builder was talking about.
