    blanket box help

I have been making a blanket box from some beautiful Parana Pine boards that came from a workshop clearance. I have built the body of the box and included a couple of hidden drawers (copying a Victorian blanket box I already have). The problem is the lid. I jointed up enough width from the...

WIN_20190719_18_17_46_Pro by nick tasker, on Flickr]WIN_20190719_18_17_46_Pro by nick tasker, on Flickr[/url] Any ideas? I don't think it is for woodworking. It's a bit like a very small froe on a stick with a posh handle. No makers marks and looks like the metal work has been done by a...

    Small Oak Side Table

I made this for a retirement gift. I cut the mortices by hand and it took bloody ages in such tough oak. I am pleased with the look. The curved apron and tapered legs make a big difference. DSCF0456 by nick tasker, on Flickr DSCF0461 by nick tasker, on Flickr

    shipwright tools

I recently bought some tools from a shipwright in a Newcastle yard. Some of them belonged to his late father so they could go back a few years. Some I recognise (caulking mallets and irons, adzes) but some I don't. There is a metal spike around 20 inches long stamped "G I". It goes from just...

    car boot tool box copy

So I bought this at the car boot sale: DSCF0387 by nick tasker, on Flickr It is a really small version of a carpenters chest around 18 x 6 inches. I liked it so much I thought I'd have a go at making one. The only difference is I used dove-tails to joint it as I need the practice. Just need to...

    big lump of brass (bronze!)

    carving chisel with inlaid handle

Anyone come across this before? The handle is inlaid with metal: DSCF0283 by nick tasker, on Flickr DSCF0279 by nick tasker, on Flickr I wonder if it was another way of marking out tools that belong to you, rather than a name stamp. I really like the feel of these small octagonal handles.

    What is this?

Is it a 19th century multi tool? Came out of a chest with other old tools. I have done an internet trawl but could only find the later ones that store bits in the handle. The handle on this is solid mahogany. No name on the handle or the brass.

    Stanley no.46

On Friday I dropped my car off at the local garage to get new rear coil springs fitted, and I had a couple of hours to kill. I went to the charity shops, had some lunch and on the way back to the garage called in at an antiques shop. They sometimes have woodworking tools in but they are usually...
