Car Diagnostic scanners - anybody use them?

I use this for my 2011 W212 E 200cdi. Its well made, easy to use, has a good reviews, both online and from a knowledgeable mate who has loaded several manufacturers software onto his. It takes a lot of the guesswork out when a dash light comes on. FOXWELL NT510 Elite Full System OBD2 Scanner...

    Restoring 18C longcase clock case

My Dad repairs clocks and on the cases, he does the minimum amount of work, enough to keep them structurally sound. He does occasionally replace mouldings, structural parts, or undo earlier poor repairs (recently he removed and replaced a horrible mahogany veneer on an old face door, which...

    Dissassembling Union Graduate for transportation

Just to give a final update. I hired a van. I'm glad I did. While the headstock/pedestal would dimension wise just about "fit" in my car boot, in practical terms it would be almost impossible to lift out again. Also runs the risk of destroying the car bodywork! We kept the lathe intact...

    Dissassembling Union Graduate for transportation

Thanks Deema, I have just enough boot room and am going to try it!! I also did a further search here using "pedestal" and found this earlier thread. https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/union-graduate-headstock-assembly.66515/

    Dissassembling Union Graduate for transportation

Dear All, I have seen a Union Graduate (30" bed) for sale and am interested. However, transport is an issue, and I was wondering about disassembling it to fit in a large saloon, boot and back seat. Any opinions? Kind regards Gerard

Idea: How to Search for an Air Compressor

I'm not sure what you mean by deform here? Surely both aluminium and steel exhibit elastic behaviour before the Yield point, and plastic behaviour after? In both metals, any deformation below yield pt will be temporary, and above yield pt will be permanent?

Idea: How to Search for an Air Compressor

I have two observations on the above regarding (i) Thermal energy, and (ii) fatigue (i) Compressed air is not a good energy storage medium, unless significant care and equipment is used. Once air is compressed as well as reducing volume, it increases in Pressure, and in Temperature. Once...

    Engineering Tools Maybe ?

You might try a Civil Engineering, or Building Construction Department in a university or college. They might be able to utilise the two spare bars if they have the matching gauge apparatus. Unfortunately its not much use as the kit is separated! Best regards, Gerard

    Engineering Tools Maybe ?

The two bars are part of a strain gauge extensometer setup. I can’t remember the manufacturer of this system but I have used these to measure strains in concrete beams or slabs when loaded/tested. You will see bith male and female standards. The female standard is used to “zero” a dial gauge on...

Home Made Compressor, Would you buy it

Unauthorised additional welds for bracketry and outlet header, and doesnt seem to have a water drain either, so could corrode from the inside out. This might have gotten someone out of a tight spot some years back, but from a long term safety POV, its dangerous.

    Infrared heaters.

This company makes industrial IR heaters and has an office in the UK. You might have to buy the individual elements and pair them with a reflector. A ceramic heater of around 500 - 650W is a nice no glare heat beside a bench. Where to Buy Ceramicx Infrared Heating Elements & Components...

    Working out lathe speeds?

Although I was very surprised, I do believe you Chas, theres nothing like someone who has actually done it and reported back. I will be looking for an opportunity to try it myself some time. Thinking about the ON/OFF, wont a bulb supplied with 50Hz electricity actually heat and cool 100 times...

    Working out lathe speeds?

Go for the cheapo rpm meters as mentioned above. The strobe and patterned discs would be a good idea too, but you'll need a strobe light, the incandescent filament wont work as its pretty much a constant non flickering source.
