    Faded japaning.

Thanks for the replies all, it seems to have darkened a bit but it may just be me getting used to it. Don't think I will paint it as I do like the original finish I don't know how close to it I would be able to get if I did it myself (brush marks). I'll save the link though, you never know !

    Faded japaning.

Hi all, So I was cleaning a plane I recently got which was quite grimy and greasy so I used a toothbrush with some dish soap as I've done plenty of times and wiped it off. The japanning has faded! It's no big deal just a bit gutted to be honest I really like the dark record blue. Has anyone...

    Shooting board woes

I had a similar problem. My fence was dead square to the board but always ended up with out of square cuts. The stock I was planning was too thick and even though my plane was razor sharp the piece would always move if the shaving was a tad too thick. Test using really light cuts on a piece of...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Finally finished my Danish stool build following Richard McGuires plans. A very rewarding but challenging build especially as this was the first piece of furniture I have made. Beech and black paper cord finished with BLO and a coat of wax. Special thanks to @johnnyb for guidance and help when...

    Marking Knives

I tend to use both pencil and a scalpel for my marking out. Only con with the scalpel is the blade is so fine it can wander if you're not paying attention and the knife line can be a bit shallow.

    Found 3d printed guide.

Yes lip at the bottom as I don't have the groove in the tool rest. Those measurements seem to be fine I've never handled the Sorby in jig in person though. I measured my tool rest if it helps 5mmx70mmx100mm Thank you again.

    Found 3d printed guide.

That's very kind of you. I would prefer the lip at the bottom and an adjustable fence would be good incase my tool rest is not square to the wheel.

    Found 3d printed guide.

I'm not too familiar with the variety of plastics available with 3d printing so thank you for your advice I am using a CBN wheel which keeps heat a bit lower.

    Found 3d printed guide.

Firstly apologies of this isn't the right section of the forum or not appropriate. I wanted to ask if any members here would be able to 3D print me a rudimentary square edge guide for my bench grinder tool rest. I'm thinking something what looks similar to the Sorby square edge jig a platform...

Lie Nielsen or Clifton 5 1/2?

If buying unseen from ebay is putting you off there are many sites that sell refurbished old stanley/records which are good to go. I'm sure if you dropped them an email they would be happy to help. I mentioned in the other thread I love my record 5 1/2. For your lie-neilsen, clifton query i...

    Recommend plastic handled chisel.

Thanks everyone might keep an eye out for some old firmers as they seem to be less in demand than BE chisels. Then get a correct size mortice chisel as I need it for larger jobs when I have a few mortices to do.

https://www.dictum.com/en/western-type-babc/stubai-chisels-3k-kork-profi-6-piece-set-in-cotton-tool-roll-701399 Does anyone have any experience with stubai? They do a version without the cork as well.

    Recommend plastic handled chisel.

I'll look in to these thank you. Are the Irwin branded ones still decent? Thanks Jacob ill look into adding a few sizes of mortice chisels. The work I do doesn't require chisels this heavy duty. Thank you for the recommendation.
