    Nail Gauge Question

Are these really 3mm shank, or will that be referring to the head? https://tradefixdirect.com/stainless-steel-nails/a2-stainless-steel-annular-ring-lost-head-nails-50-x-3mm?gclid=Cj0KCQjw98ujBhCgARIsAD7QeAg7vMl4wSyUQ7WzZ-kxOGQJBd9Ko31ZCatEciDyQ9x82W7JyWGzvCIaAgdEEALw_wcB#moreInfo Thanks!

Profiling cladding myself - am I mad?

I’m back on the never ending garden workshop project. Found a couple of choices of cladding locally available in small quantities (I only need to cover 2.2m height x 4.8m clad vertically). UK grown larch, very knotty which I don’t like, but profiled at least or Douglas Fir which I like...

    Recommend a finish

Made a little box for a present, it will be a late one Can’t remember what the species is! It looks nice just polished (needs some work yet) but I’d like to put something on to protect it. Will Liberon finishing oil followed by Briwax (my typical go to) be OK?

    Cladding suppliers?

Right, I’m drawing a blank on cladding suppliers for my shed / workshop build. The choice seems to be the odd sawmill within reasonable distance that won’t even let me visit or look at samples advertised on Facebook or eBay, or premium stuff from suppliers miles away. Can anyone recommend a...

    Building grade timber quality

Treated C24, 125 x 95 x 3600 @ £11/length. Out of 15 lengths delivered, 8 are badly twisted. 4 of the 8 are so bad I’m not sure I can use them. Genuinely curious if this is normal, or if I’m missing a trick about how to work with this stuff. I feel sorry for the merchant in some ways as they...

    New Yorkshire Workshop (YouTube)

Just curious if anyone knows who this guy is? I get the impression he might like to keep it under the radar a bit but he seems to do commissions and it looks like he probably has some pretty high end clients. I’d love to see a website if he has one. https://youtube.com/c/NewYorkshireWorkshop

    Where do they get it?

In Germany for a few days, I think I’d be hard pushed to find softwood of this sort of quality in the UK Not to mention leaving it in the street and not finding it covered in graffiti / on fire / in someone’s garden.

    Shed build, many many questions...

Following on from this thread (thanks for the contributions), I've realised I'll be asking question after question so have decided to put it all together in one and hopefully document the build. This is the first of two outbuildings I'm hoping to build in the garden, this one is basically a...

    Breeze block shed base supports

Hi folks, I’m designing a shed which will be 4.8 x 2.4m. I’m not planning to insulate the floor or anything, it’s mainly for storage although I might put a wood lathe in there at some point in the future. I was planning to put 3 rows of 5 paving slabs down below the framed base, but have...

Kitchen base unit - odd size needed

Hi folks, I need a 900mm width kitchen base unit to replace one due to water damage, and that seems to be an odd size... The depth is 570mm, but the slot at the rear is at 500mm. Does anyone know where I might buy one at a reasonable price, or is it going to be easier to get a 1000mm one and...

Withdrawn Extractor for lathe / small planer etc.

Nifty little setup, hang it on the wall outside and duct in through the wall (100mm). Needs a fabric collection bag. 13A plug or connect to fused spur, and away you go. £75 collected?

Filler from sanding dust - advice…

I’m restoring a pine staircase - nothing fancy, there’s another thread somewhere - and have dozens of holes and cracks to fill. I’m not expecting it to look perfect by any stretch, but just a bit tidier and **slightly** less obvious. The advice here was to use sanding dust for the best colour...

    Inca Bandsaw service

I’ve started servicing an Inca Euro 360 bandsaw ready to go to its new owner @Mike MW, and thought I would start a thread on the process in case it helps anyone else in future. I’m not an Inca expert by any means, but part of my day-to-day work involves servicing various machinery, and I like...

    Custom mouldings online?

I need to find someone with a spindle moulder really. Have been looking for the right moulding for a new railing for our stairs and can’t find what I want, but randomly came across this website https://www.wooduchoose.com/ You choose from a zillion different silhouettes of mouldings - I chose...

    For Sale Industrial(ish) extractors

Hi folks, I have x 3 large P&J extraction units no longer required. The two smaller ones were each connected to bandsaw and the large one was connected to a panel saw. They all have 3ph motors but look like dual voltage. No start gear on them. £200 each for the small ones, £350 for the big...

    Impressive bandsaw work...

I thought it was going to be easy after all until about 20 mins in. Backing out of those cuts... The superglue is interesting too.

Pink treatment / primer 50’s building timber

I’ve been working on the woodwork around the house, and after stripping off the paint there is a pink-ish tinge to the timber. I’m curious whether it’s a treatment similar to modern pressure treated green / blue stuff? Or is it the primer used? It’s a shame to paint over some of it again...

    Any hope of flattening this?

During the course of refurbishing a staircase I’ve removed the bottom tread as it was moving. The stairs are just pine (it’s a 50’s council house) and pretty well built but were let down when the installer didn’t support the bottom riser properly from below and over the years the tread has...

    Staircase treads...

We’re decorating our hall and staircase and my wife has been on Pinterest...sigh. So I’ve taken the stair carpet up, and the treads are ok quality - it’s a 1950s council house. A proper stair carpet was fitted at some point in the past so it’s been painted at the sides. I stripped this off...
