Hi All, I've got an Ace & K powermax compressor that needs fixing (I think one of the rubber valves has perished). I've been looking for someone who can supply spares or do the whole repai/maintenance for me in the Oxfordshire/Wiltshire area. Anyone know of someone who can do this? I don't...

    CMT 3 in 1 edge/laminate trimmer bit?

I just bought one of these - it has a triangular plastic "thingie" around the bearing, the idea of which is to provide more surface area to contact the work piece. But - looking at it, and trying it out, the cutter actually isn't flush with the plastic on the bearing and results in taking...

suppliers for laminate worktop and edging?

I'm just about to start designing and building a portable cocktail bar for an event we're holding. It's a fairly simple worktop design on a three part panel base (or at least it is so far!). It'll be something similar to: http://www.thecocktailbarcompany.co.uk/gatsby_bars.html The top is a...

    Advice needed on sink plinth

I'm having a fairly major loft conversion done (lots of technology in there) and am designing and building a sink plinth or countertop. I'm planning on using solid Walnut (American Black Select Grade) to match the timber floor in the main part of the loft. If you're interested, this is my...

Modern sideboard tops - edge lamination?

Well, after a long time of no woodworking :( I've decided to make the next piece of furniture on the list - a sideboard/cupboard :) I want to make this fairly quickly and will be using real wood veneered MDF to match the aquarium cabinet I built last year. Most of the construction is failry...

Making louvre panels for outside enclosure?

I'm about to design and make an outside enclosure for an aquarium chiller unit (like an air con unit). It needs good airflow/cooling around the unit to operate properly but also needs protecting from the elements. It's going to sit next to an outside wall, so I thought I'd design a 'lean-to'...

    Plans for an octagonal gazebo?

I saw a lovely octagonal gazebo in a garden centre yesterday - now determined to make my own. Has anyone seen any plans, free or otherwise or books etc on this topic? I will modify but would be a good starting point. It needs to be the fully enclosed type with windows/door at the front. I'm...

Cutting a bit circular hole in a finished cabinet?

I've finished my fish tank cabinet but now need to cut a hole in the side to fit a fan. The material is veneered MDF 19mm thick and the hole has to be regular and clean. Hole diameter is approx 120mm. I'm not sure of the best method to cut this hole that will not damage the rest of the cabinet...

    HELP! jigsaw problems

I've got a Bosch PST850 PE jigsaw - had it quite a few years. I'm having problems (and always have had) with it not cutting perpendicular to the wood. The blade is square to the base but as I progress across the wood (well, in this case MDF), the blade starts to flex sideways (to the right)...

    Simple joint advice needed

Hi, Need some advice on a simple joint. The joint is the top corner frame - This frame will be hidden inside aquarium cabinet. stock size is 50mm x 40mm (not square due to equipment sizes). I was going to use M+T but if I can get away with something quicker but still strong, will use that...

    Edge banding proceedure

I was just wondering what the correct method for applying edge banding is? I'm using .5mm thick real wood veneer edging. I tried using an iron which wolked OK although the veneer did have a tendancy to cup at the ends at first and slip to the sides slightly. I have a hot air gun if that's any...

    White, waterproof, salt proof finish?

I'm looking for a hard wearing, waterproof, salt proof finish for the inside of an aquarium cabinet I'm making. The panels are veneered MDF so waterprooking is very important. The aquarium water is also salt water, so that's important too. I'd quite like a white finish if possible - apart from...

I just got an Ace&K 18g angle brad & compressor

Just got an Ace &K 18G angle brad nailer and a 50L belt drive compressor (same make). What a GREAT bit of kit :) Compressor is really well made and sturdy - looking forward to the first real use (rather than nailing loads of scraps together!!!). This type of compressor is much quieter than all...

    Laminate trimming

I'm just about to embark on a laminate trimming exercise for the first time - laminate MDF and Ply. I have a huge DeWalt router that's obviously not too good for trimming the iron-on laminate edging so want to buy something that will do the job ver acurately. Should I go for something like a...

    Kitchen cupboard style hinges

Following on from my fish tank posts, I'm looking for suitable hinges for the doors to my Aquarium cabinet. I'm thinking kitchen cupboard style (whatever they're called?). What I need is some data on fixing dimensions (and info on such things as door overlap/overhang etc). I don't want to...

    MDF compression strength - formula/calcs???

Is there a source of info on the compression strength of MDF (turned on it's side) - any rule of thum or more scientific calcs? I'd like to see if the aquarium stand I'm proposing (separate thread) is going to be strong enough. I guess I'll also call the manufacturers too. Thanks, Paul.

    Cabinet construction - veneered MDF

I've settled on a cabinet construction type to hold my new aquarium. It will be a very simple veneered MDF 'box' construction. My question - how easy or difficult is it to achieve a good mitre along the shorter edges of two largish MDF panels so I can biscuit join them? Would it be easier to...

http://www.siliconpixel.com/gallery/workshop Look at page 2/3 for the new pics. Been a little late getting the pics up to date - a few of you asked to see them a while ago - so here they are :) I'm REALLY pleased with it - nice and cosy and doesn't take long to get it warm as it's well...
