Planer Thicknesser - Old one with a helical head?

I've just moved house and have tonnes and tonnes of work to do. Built in cabinets etc etc. Also have a much larger workshop. I'm looking at a planer thicknesser and at the moment it seems like the Axminster AW2260S has good reviews and a spiral head. It's 1500 quid or so... But I also am...

    What's this lathe?

What do we think of the chuck which is currently on the lathe? It doesn't look complete to me. Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent chuck?

    What's this lathe?

Just moved into a new house where I have access to a big workshop that my wife's grandfather used for many years. Various people have used the tools over the years, but there is a lathe which still runs in the corner along with his chisels etc. I've never done any turning at all and have no...

For Sale Stanley Bailey No7 (Made in USA) Plane

Have had this nice Stanley Bailey No7 Plane. It has been flattened to within about a paper thickness along its length. The blade is fairly short and I never got round to totally flattening it - I think it could probably do with replacing at some point. There is some pitting on the sole of the...

Linseed putty to fill small defects on joinery - how long to dry?

Want to use some linseed putty to fill a small crack in a panel on a victorian front door before repainting. Previously when using linseed putty around glazing I've waited weeks for it to go off. Do I have to do the same for the linseed putty? Regards Joe (student and disciple of the Jacob...

Tiling onto a Victorian Solid (ish) floor in a bathroom

Yes I think it's some kind of soft Out of interest, why did you feel the need to do that? Why didn't you just leave it as is? Worried about rising damp in floor? In walls? Not trying to be snarky.

Another bloody damp Problem Bay Window...

No idea what the point of the vent is - but they are in the same position in the whole street. So not something that has been added later on. They are plastic windows... the problem started a couple of years ago. I suspect you're right that watering the flower box has made things worse.

Passing Cyclists in UK with a car Genuine help question

Always love a good cycling thread. Always brings out a few people who for some reason are pathologically obsessed with cyclists. It isn't very complicated really. Cyclists are vulnerable road users and should be treated as such. They can't really exceed the speed limit, and in an accident are...

Dumbing down work wear HSBC / BA

The new HSBC uniforms look like something out of a fast food chain or maybe halfords. It's a way of the banks paying even less to their high street staff, by limiting expectation- it won't be long until it's just another minimum wage job.
