    Suitable for turning

    What I did when I started was cut my own blanks but without a big enough band saw I was cutting blanks with the chainsaw. I would not recommend this unless you get pretty accurate with the chainsaw. I had the lathe bouncing around, voids where I was cutting air and various knots and things...

    Administer CCL

    Almost certainly the capacitor. Happened to me, replaced it for about £10 or £15 can't remember. Shortly after that it went too so just replaced the motor. Happy days.

    First mitre saw recommendations

    I like Metabo. Well the first one I had was on a construction site and was an Elektra Beckum which is now Metabo. Currently I have a Metabo one and it has been abused quite a bit and still bang on.

    gloves?

    I worked with a mechanic once who had his hand badly injured when it was dragged into a bench grinder while he was buffing bolts using a wire wheel. And he wasn't even wearing gloves, so it can happen regardless.

    Bandsaw for the beginner

    I went for the Metabo BAS261 which was a great little saw. I didn't buy it to do bandsaw boxes but I tried them and really like making them but found the saw was limiting so I upgraded to a second hand Charnwood B350. Nothing wrong with the Metabo except the tension mechanism did break once...
