    Hi Rob… it maybe just a chemical reaction….the wool would be fine…pardon the pun! don’t forget the natural substances in the wood grain… science is a wonderful thing…

    Hi Rob… it maybe a reaction from the wool….I know if you use vinegar and steel wool it can turn wood to an ebony colour… so possibly some sort of acid in the wax? steve

    I looked at this when it came out….I thought it was complete overkill…and a waste of resources. A typical graduate idea…clever but totally not needed. surely wood turners could make up wooden collars from there offcuts….???

    Hiyas.. if I were you I would contact Axminster..I would suspect that is not HSS…more likely a very bad batch of Chinese material…I’ve never seen anything blued by contact with wood.. can you file the steel with a normal file?…. It should slide over the surface…..

    Hey!!!!! I’ve still got my two…one is fitted with cross head/Phillips and the other a slot driver… totally agree about the dangers of using them, especially around windows… lol. think they are just one of those quirky tools to hang on too and just say you have one because you can. steve

    Hi there Chuck i had one of those lathes given too me a couple of years back….the thread is definitely 3/4 16tpi…..I bought a cheaply chuck from rutlands to get me going . however I know own an Axminster bench job by with M33 thread….if you intend updating in future Tris is right…. Get an M33...

    Hi there Simon… I might be able to help you out here….I do have access to an old Kity 613…. the table on those is 500*500…200 throat… i think it was a very good bandsaw…..and used for a range of jobs

    Is it worth trying to sharpen my Irwin handsaws?

    I use a silky arborist saw with hardened teeth…used for branches up to 6”… it is highly recommended to apply olive oil to the blade after use. This breaks down any sap residue that remains on teeth and blade…thus making it appear blunt. me

    Cedar logs and what to do?

    Hiyas.. I have had the fortune to obtain a few bits of cedar….I have noticed tho it does have a tendency to split…as it dries… it’s beautiful to turn . if I were you I’d quarter a couple of logs and turn one or two between centres…(spindle)… some could be used for small bowls…but practise...
