What to do about shed rot?

Yes, got one running in there now! It's… not bad, not great. The roof certainly needs redoing before too long. But I'd like to get another few years out of it. I spent much of last year building a double-garaged size shed/gym, and the year before that building a home office, so it would be...

What to do about shed rot?

But isn't the problem that the bits of wood that are soaking up the wood are the bits I can't access to paint? Ie, the faces in contact with the ground, and then the cladding edges where it's soaking from one board to the next, rather than the faces? As in, try and jack up the building bit by...

What to do about shed rot?

I've been using a garden shed (built by the house's previous owners) as my workshop for a couple years and was about to insulate it. The walls were ply with a vapour barrier behind it, but just the studs and cladding behind that. My plan was to stick a breathable membrane and kingspan between...

    Blowout on box joint jig

Thanks both. I had another think and replaced the backing board with something thicker, and also started clamping my workpeice to the board rather than just holding it, which I think has made a big difference. I've just done the first few pieces and no tearout yet…!

    Blowout on box joint jig

Hi, I'm having my first go and box joints on a jig I made based on William Ng's video. After a fair amount of tweaking, I'm fairly happy with the resulting fit. The problem I'm having is blowout on the rear of the fingers when using birch plywood. As you can see here...

    Building a laminate-faced plywood desk

Thanks for the replies. With regards to the quality of the melamine-faced ply, Champion are replacing it without quibble which is good - hopefully the next one arrives in better shape! I think I'll probably use the suggested router technique for trimming the laminated ply, but will do some...

    Building a laminate-faced plywood desk

UPDATE In the end, I found my local Champion Timber could order it in for me for £147 delivered which I thought was OK. Now having received it, I have a few more questions… bare in mind I'm an enthusiastic newbie :D 1 - What condition do you expect sheets to arrive in? I've tried a few...

    Building a laminate-faced plywood desk

Yeah, it's the exposed ply edges and then a white top I'm looking for. Like this: I was thinking framing a cheapo melamine-coated particle board wouldn't allow those sharp edges. But I suppose if I cut the edge 45° and put a triangular strip along the edge as the frame, that might just work…

    Building a laminate-faced plywood desk

Thanks but I'm quite set on the plywood look. I'm going to be doing sets of drawers in ply and want the desk to match. Plus the desk will be 8ft wide which is much bigger than most cheapo off-the-shelf jobs.

    Building a laminate-faced plywood desk

UPDATE - I've got the plywood but have more questions… see latest post. Hi, I'm looking to make a desk and like the idea of birch plywood with a solid white desktop. I'm trying to keep costs down and wonder what's the best way of achieving this look. I've found I can get 18mm birch ply for...
