Can't get 25 x 25 batten straight for love nor money - help

Thanks all. I have lined up a local rough timber merchant. A good guy I know well and he's agreed to mill up some hardwood for me, but I think I might have a go at using plywood first. It won't be exactly what I had in mind, but I can probably make it work and it'll be a lot cheaper since I...

    Garage Contents Insurance??

Hiya. Please ignore my earlier my earlier recommendation for toolsinsuranceonline.com. I got their policy wording through and spoke to them and they didn't inspire me with confidence. They say that 'plant' vs. 'handheld' tools means e.g. a mitre saw is covered even though it's not handheld...

    Garage Contents Insurance??

IGNORE THIS - THINGS CHANGED WITH THEM. SEE BELOW. I just bought some insurance with toolsinsuranceonline.com. All registered with the FCA. The claims go to Zurich insurance. I explained the situation and they seemed fine so long as they were stored in a locked garage. Wasn't cheap though...

Thanks for that. I'll double check. It's stored under cover in an open air warehouse.

    Garage Contents Insurance??

Hi there. Did you ever find someone? I'm in the same situation. I rent a garage from my next door neighbour and our household insurance won't cover the contents because it's not on the same deed. There's just over £3-4k of tools and another £6-7k of other household stuff in there. Feeling a...

    Silver lining

I agree there could definitely be some positives that come out of this. If there are any shortages, hopefully we'll all realise that we're still fine and don't need to consume as much stuff as we think we do (obviously woodworking tools are an exception to that).

Can't get 25 x 25 batten straight for love nor money - help

Hi there. I'm making a piece of rehabilitation equipment for my son and I'm stuck at the most basic level - getting the baton straight. It's basically a box frame made of 25mm x 25mm batten. Even the straightest batten I can buy is too warped to have enough wood remaining after I plane it...

Thicknesser - Which do I keep: JET JWP-12 or Triton TPT 125

Well (unsurprisingly) the JET wins. Although there is one design fault, which is that the extractor fitting points directly backwards over the outfeed table. Might need to get a 45 degree adapter to get the hose out of the way of the wood. Otherwise - very happy. Thanks for all your advice.

Hi Mark. Thanks for that. How do I check the bushes?

Thicknesser - Which do I keep: JET JWP-12 or Triton TPT 125

Thank you all for your advice. I have a new set of blades given to me with the Jet, so I'll fit those and do the side by side comparison and then see where things stand.

Thicknesser - Which do I keep: JET JWP-12 or Triton TPT 125

Hi all. A bit of advice would be appreciated. I bought a Triton TPT 125 Thicknesser last year, but recently have been given a JET JWP-12. I don't need both and I'm wondering which one to sell on. The JET is probably 10+ years old and the Triton is new. The JET has an 1800w motor, what...

Do I fix an old cast iron top bench planer or buy new one?

Hi everyone. Thanks for all your replies. In a great turn of events a lovely man in his 80s was clearing his workshop and gave me the exact same model planer in perfect condition and a friend of my wife's is keen to have a go at fixing the other. So I'm passing it along to him.

Do I fix an old cast iron top bench planer or buy new one?

Thank you all so much. This is the first time I've posted here and it is fantastic to get such helpful responses. I am going to try a couple of local metalworks factories near here and see what they can do first off and see what they will charge. If they can fix it or make a new support then...

Do I fix an old cast iron top bench planer or buy new one?

Thanks guys. Do you know of any decent benchtop planers that I can buy new? I paid £60 for this and can get a refund of the guy who sold it to me. But if it costs £100 to get perfect, maybe it's still worth it?

Do I fix an old cast iron top bench planer or buy new one?

Hiya - I need some help. I bought the WP150 from someone on Gumtree and as I took it apart to give it a clean, I discovered the in-feed table was lower on one side caused by two cracks in the table support underneath. I've emailed Axminster to see what they can do, but I'm wondering if it's...
