You could try araldite or even epoxy resin if the joints are very slack.

It looks like you could use it for off centre turning i had a similar arrangement for a cornet major lathe.

Hi it looks like sycamore to me I have turned quite a bit of it.

IT looks a bit like Philippine mahogany I worked quite a bit of this on some window frames difficult grain to finish.There are a few lookalike timbers that come under the same category.
