Festool or Makita? Which router to go for?

Based on thousands of hours on Makita and Festo routers I would buy the Makita Rp1110C - it's the best 8mm-1/4" router I've used The Makita you like is going to have poor dust collection because the motor cooling air is blown directly down onto the cutter - this is a common failing of many of...

    Festool knock down connectors

If you already have a bicuit joiner use that. Knapp verbinder makes lots of hardware for them and Lamello sell some too. theres a clamex S cam biscuit that uses an 8mm slot so you cut this by using the 4mm spacer that comes with the machine to make a double height slot matt

    Saw stop

It,s a solution for Americans and the hobby fraternity that look in that direction. Someone mentioned a retrofit for panel saws in European education - I read of one being developed by IFA Stuttgart and a consortium of large manufacturers - it attached to the Suva guard and used near infra red...

    What actually happened to Elu?

Eugen Lutz sold his power tool business to B&D in 1984 to concentrate on bigger machinery aimed at window manufacturing (there are a lot of strange Elu routers for cutting in window fittings) the Swiss B&D Delemont works made lots of the tools and Perles and GMM made others. Bean counters at...

    Silicon on plastered wall

I would use a tiny bead of sealant the same colour as the wall. Soapy water causes adhesion problems - Fugi tools are supposed to be used dry to prevent this Watch the Fugen star youtube Matt

Swollen chip board repair (water damage)

Rob, you could look for an old piece of furniture to cannibalize to replace the failed chipboard. I don't mean hack up an antique but an unloved C20th sideboard from junk shop could be ideal Matt

    Mini circular saw

I have used my Makita biscuit jointer as a small plunge saw. It's explained in the manual - Lamello also show their machines used as saws Matt

Anyone with an Emco MH30 Woodworker P/T?

Hi Henning Sorry I've mixed up the numbers slightly. Your machine is 300mm wide - thats the ADH 1630 Not the ADH260 (260mm wide) you would probably have figured this out The letter after the machine number is W for single phase (wechselstrom) and D for three phase (drehstrom) electrics

Anyone with an Emco MH30 Woodworker P/T?

Metabo bought the Emco designs. Your machine is a Metabo ADH260 if you want spare parts or a Manual download Matt

What to get in the way of storage boxes.

The Euro containers Green has recommended are excellent - Auer, Allibert and Arca all make good versions They are very tough and practical Matt

    new table saw recommendations

Personally I would save up and buy a European machine like an SCM or Moretens -much better design and quality than the china stuff. Not to mention meeting dust emission standards Matt

    Adjustable custom housing joint jig

If you add a sacrificial piece to the front fence which you then cut through I find it helps in lining up to your pencil marks without any measuring. Matt

Remedy for vac hose ridges getting snagged? Anyone???

Festo used to sell a steel pole that stuck in the top of your vac and had a loop on the top you pass the hose through - I still use one on of my SR6 vacs and it helps in some situations. Often though you just have to put an F clamp on the edge of the workpiece for the hose to run against the...
