    How to attach bookcasetop

Thanks for all your replies. I havedowel guides, but the problem here is potential movement. The grain in the sides and shelves runs the same way, so no issue there; the problem is with the top. The whole unit will only be around 900mm high; the base will be attached with a combination of dowels...

    How to attach bookcasetop

Hi, I'm new to woodworking though I've been turning for a few years. I'm building a bookcase in pippy oak with a resin and spalted burr elm top. My problem is how to attach the top securely but still allow for movement. Essentially it forma a T junction and both elements are around 40mm thick...

    Trying to find...

Just been looking at the builders supplies, again, nothing seems to it the bill. Might have to buy the steel and make them myself.

    Trying to find...

Might be worth looking at the builders stuff, but the flanged ones would be visible from the side, and i really don't want them to be seen. I'm building with thick pieces of pippy oak with lots of burr and live edged shelves. I don't want any hardware to be on show.

The reason I hadn't finished turning the piece was down to my impatience i'm afraid; I started it on a face plate and as I said, i'm new to this turning lark and was waiting for a chuck to be delivered. I couldn't help having a play while I waited for it. Still, thanks again for the tips, i'll...

    Resin and spalted beech

Do you mean fill the bowl completely, and then turn it again? At the moment I have only turned the external surface. I am worried that if I try to turn the inside, I might risk pulling the thing apart as the wall thickness reduces.

    Resin and spalted beech

Thanks for the tips people. I have come across Baufort inks, and have ordered a couple of their pen kits to have a little play with as I have some nice Afzelia xylocarpa burr i'd like to put to use. I already have one or two taps and dies that may be of use in my tool collection, but I was...

    Resin and spalted beech

Hi, I.m new to both woodturning and this forum, so please be patient with me... I've recently got into bowl turning and have been working with a beautiful piece of spalted beech I bought on a certain auction site. After turning the outside, i noticed one or two cracks had formed over the few...
