    Planer / Thicknesser recommendations

Hi James, That’s no problem, I hear you. You could look at the Clarke models that come in 6, 8 and 10” widths I believe. Look them up on machine mart, with the benefit that it’s a brick and mortar shop. They also do home delivery. I can’t vouch personally for the machines, but might be enough...

    Planer / Thicknesser recommendations

Hi James, Admittedly not exactly related to what you’ve asked, but have you considered one of the larger floor standing machines? I have the Axminster AC250PT which is an excellent piece of kit. I have a Triton lunchbox thicknesser that I can also wholeheartedly recommend. If you’re...

Axminster Craft AC250PT Planer Thicknesser review - YouTube

That’s a fair point, I’d put it on 100mm castors which have some decent brakes. Worst that’ll happen is I’ll have to remove them and buy a base so no harm done I suppose. Cheers, Tom

Axminster Craft AC250PT Planer Thicknesser review - YouTube

Thanks fezman, the workshop isn’t massive so manouvering space is limited. I did think about just sticking some castors to the bottom of the plywood it came on but I’m concerned that the castors won’t provide enough resistance when pushing wood over the planer bed. Cheers, Tom

Axminster Craft AC250PT Planer Thicknesser review - YouTube

Hi NigelParry, Hope you found the videos useful... The main thing for me as mentioned in the review were the cast iron tables. The Metabo and RP models have aluminium tables (ribbed admittedly for strength) whereas you're never going to get more solid than cast iron. Also, the AC250PT has...

Axminster Craft AC250PT Planer Thicknesser review - YouTube

Hi all, Published a review on my YouTube channel for the above planer thicknesser. Apologies in advance if I'm not able to address every facet of the machine, but as stated in the video, if you have any questions, I'm happy to try and answer them as best I can either here or in the comments on...

    Planer thicknesses buying guide

I wish I had the room for something of that capacity - the one I have is fine for most applications, but as it says in the video, for whatever reason a lot of chips get left behind when planing but not so much on thicknessing :? I do wonder sometimes if I spent the time fully sealing up the...

    Planer thicknesses buying guide

Hi, If it helps you, I've just published a video review of the Axminster AC250PT on YouTube. In it, you get to see it in action and get a view of the postivies/negatives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5hdKVNfVIY Hope it helps! Tom

Thanks all for the further comments, honestly, they are appreciated and will certainly take the tips on board! I've just today taken delivery of a brand new camera so hoping to get some shooting done this weekend. It will most likely be a "this is me" video, but want to make sure that I get the...

Agree with your excellent points, and as mentioned above, I've fully taken these onboard and have invested in a better camera to start with and will follow this up with an upgraded microphone for the next video. I'm hopeful that with some better equipment, lighting should be less of an issue...

Hmm, so if I understand you correctly, I need to lose some pounds, grow out my hair and develop boobs? And of course make sure I always use a blade guard :)

Some very valid points there Deadeye, thank you for sharing. To address some of them immediately, I suppose my main driver is just to share my experiences and document projects to share with others - how you categorise that I’m not sure... Have watched or subscribed to most of those you’ve...

I’m positive there’s a compliment in there somewhere  So my position is simply this in respect of the “candy floss” woodworking videos... To grow the hobby, it needs to be accessible. Not everyone has the time/patience/attention span/whatever to get into the weeds right from day one. I...

Hence my asking - as I say, no tone implied, just curious what standard I’m aiming for and where the bar is

Can I ask, with a genuine sense of curiosity and no implied tone, do you have a YouTube channel? and indeed, do you have an online presence showcasing your pieces?

Now interestingly, I can see your point, and believe that that's exactly what I set out to do. So I've been after a PT for ages now, something better than the Titan jobby I had some years ago, and there's nothing on YouTube about the product I featured, not even an unboxing video! :D So my...

Thanks for taking the time to write that lovely feedback Sgian, it's really appreciated. I have considered doing a bit of a "workshop tour" style of video. I'll take your suggestion on board and look to turn this into a reality. Similarly, I think your suggestion of doing something in the...

Thanks for taking the time to write the feedback Peter, much appreciated (and as an aside, I'm one of your Patreons and took a great deal of inspiration from your efforts in deciding to start my own channel). Fully take onboard your comments, and certainly taking away from this that equipment...

Some mixed views here, and certainly a tough crowd  So firstly, just to clear up, the video was never meant to be a review - if you watch to the end then you’ll see I call that out explicitly. Also, it’s a channel that’s JUST STARTED, so forgive me if I don’t have a catalogue of videos...
