Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Wait until you want to sell it, no dealers want them. If you charge them with a fast charger it kills the batteries even quicker.

    Aluminium tower advice please

Hi, Exactly right. It is hard to describe but they have covered this exactly. Makes it easy to erect. In industry you have to have training in this and renew it regularly, once you have experience in this it’s simple. Regards, Dave

    Aluminium tower advice please

Hi, I think you just about covered most things. Stabilisers should be fitted above 1 working section of height. Only other thing is to start is to use a handrail straight on its side temporarily to keep the ends upright so it’s self supporting. If you fit them correctly the whole thing will...

    Galvanised Steel

Hi, BZP(Bright Zinc Plated) is common on most bolts and washers but you can get galvanised but probably more expensive. Problem with galvanising is light articles such as thin plate or things like chicken wire will be distorted with hot dipped due to the hot zinc. Hot dipped is great for...

Cutting 4mm mild steel with jigsaw

Hi, Also wear safety goggles, I actually recommend a clear rated visor becasue if a grinder grabs it can hit you in the face, especially a 9” grinder. Also ear protection and if you still have it a handle but these don’t last long. Welders don’t use them because they restrict getting in to clean...

Cutting 4mm mild steel with jigsaw

Hi, Best way if cutting with a small grinder is to carefully follow the line to put a small groove in the steel before returning to the start point and follow the groove gently cutting right through. If you try cutting through and following the line it will wander. I’ve just retired recently...

    Buying from EU

Yes, Cameron got a great deal and Sunak had a great deal with the Windsor BS. If the deals were so good why did neither of them tell us what the deals were? If I had a brilliant sports car I’d be flashing it all round town just like Cameron did with his great deal,NOT! Who wants to be governed...

    Building control gone mad?

Hi, Before I retired in 2022 I did a lot of work on the Scunthorpe steelworks on copper and carbon pipe on Oxygen. The copper was basically domestic standard 15,22,28 and 36mm cleaned for oxygen service and silver soldered. I’ve literally completed hundreds of joints over the years and some of...

    Old school plumbing

Hi, Worked with these at college as an apprentice in the early 70’s, the other type of manipulative fittings we worked with were manipulated using a device which was inserted in the end of the pipe(after putting the nut on) , then the device was turned which put bead on the outside which made...

    Hand pump rebuild.

The only problem with the flanges is that they are flat faced and can sometimes leak. I suggest a thin smear of jointing paste on the surface inside the bolt holes to ensure a good seal. Perhaps you already do this. Regards, Dave

    How good are Howdens kitchens?

When I fitted my the kitchen in my last house my wife said ‘I’ve looked on YouTube and this is how it needs fitting’. Needless to say I ignored her when she told me the method and fitted it in a much easier and accurate way. Regards, Dave

    Round metal bands for clocks

I would suggest a sheet metal work shop will have the suitable hand rolls and could easily fab these for you.
