Our Men's Shed is just getting established and at the moment we have a Sealey lathe loaned by one of the members untill his workshop is up and running. We also have t he loan of a small bandsaw from the same member. So, I am looking around and asking what will be the best reasonably priced...

Stabilising a banana covered pottery vase?

Yes, you read the title correctly  I'm involved with a local Men's Shed and we have had a large pottery vase donated. It's quite soft=ish pot and \I think it's called unglazed earthen ware. It is covered in what is almost certainly banana leaves and the general idea is to turn it into...

    Sealey SM 13903 bandsaw?

I am wandering if anyone has one of these saws and if so then what is the verdict on it? One was bought for the Mens Shed I have got involved with by one of the members and it's been my job to 'try' to set it up. So far I just can't get it to cut a straight line and the blade is NOT well brazed...

    Einhell TC-5B 200/1 bandsaw?

I am helpijng to set up a Men's Shed and we had an Einhell bandsaw donated. It was advertised as spares or repair, so I didn't expect too much. After a nice drive out to Salisbury we got home and I had a look at it. A little 2 wheel saw with pion type blade guides and a bearing back stop. BUT...

    Startrite 301S bandsaw parts

I have had my 301S for more years than I care to think of, about 25 of them! I was doing some routine checking the other day and found that the blade wheels are getting very worn! The surface is bonded on to the wheels, they are both the same part. Does anyone know of anywhere wheree I can...

    DFS Habicht

I doubt that I could do anything like Kityhawk has done, but I too build model aircraft. Mine are radio controlled, that is always radio and sometimes controlled  This is my latest. It's a DFS Habicht, a ¼ scale model of a 1936 German gull wing and fully aerobatic glider. 3.4m span...

    Sharpening Forstner bits/

I have 11 Forstener bits that I have had for a lot of years. Ranging fro ¼" to 2". I have sharpened them with my DMT diamond stones but they have now got to the stage where they could do with a bit more attention. Is there such a thing as a 'system' on the market to do the job, one that works?

Anyone else see anything odd in this?

When it started I thought I saw something odd? By the time I got to the end I realised that I have never seen left hand thread drills and every cutting/drilling/screwing machine is bum backwards! That includes the router bit...

    Thread on turning rings?

A short while back I saw a thread on turning rings and the OP was asking about how to hold them to turn the inner surface. I have tried to find it but can't. Had anyone any idea where it is and if so can you post the link for it please?

    Knitting needles

It's got to be high amongst the strangest things I have been asked to make. The pair of rather large, almost fence pole size, knitting needles. 25mm X 50cm, black walnut and oak, 30mm X60cm, black walnut and oak and 40mm X 63cm, accoya and box. It was interesting and good skew chisel practice...

    Band saw box

I have been making a fair amount of crochet hooks for various people and though a bit to one side about the sowing fraternity. They use a lot of pins don't they. These are some of them. Well SWMBO was asking if I could make her a better pin cushion as the one I made a long time ago was...

    Jonz wooden clock.

Wooden clock 2012. Edited version as I hit the wrong button part way through posting :eek: Silly boy! A year or so back I decided that I would like to make a wooden clock. Not one with brass rods, bearings or the like, but apart from the main weight and pendulum weight, completely out...

    Hitachi 1/4" router bearing problem.

I have had a Hitachi M8V 1/4" router for years now and it has just started to sound as if one of the motor bearings is giving up, it rattles/screeches at times depending on the loading. It has been a very good router and although it's fairly old it's only been lightly used. Does anyone know if...

    UPVC exterior door stop?

We have just had a new kitchen door fitted and I'm trying to work out how to hold it in the open position? It opens outward and when open the bottom of the door is approx 5 1/2" off of the path. The door is glazed top and bottom and the center bar is in line with the window ledge. I was...

I do like inside out vases

I have grown to like inside out turning and decided to try to do something for the lady who has everything, or thinks she does? This is oak with a black walnut base. The glue for the base is drying at the moment and then all it needs is a coat of hard wax oil and a polish and then it's ready for...
