Feel a bit silly asking this on a woodworking forum but wondering if anyone here might know a thing or two about electronics? Or direct me to a good UK electronics forum? I have a vintage Yamaha B-4CR organ thats making excessive humming noise. cheers

What to do with the sliding shed door

There's this sliding shed(my workshop)door/gate that I'm not particularly fond of although its nice sometimes to have a big opening to move chunky stuff in and out. The problem is it lets water in, badly. Last night there was a rain storm and the whole entrance area is flooded. Also this is the...

Advice needed regarding some old rusty junk

Hi all, I'm in the process of clearing someones property and in exchange I get to keep stuff. Theses a table saw, a planer and a large pillar drill. Very heavy duty and very heavily rusted. lol I'm not a power tool man so these do not interest me. I would get a few quid just as scrap metal but...

    Very dark red wood.

Picked up a few of these boards thinking it was just dirty on the surface pine but after planing it I found this rather lovely deep red grain. What do you call it?

    Wet Slabs, Cut or Leave

I received a few slabs of hardwood that were stored outside for God knows how long. I already have a project in mind, mostly table legs, and frame posts for chest of drawers etc.. Wonder should I leave them as is and let it dry or cut them to size now?

    Tiger skin pattern wood.

Not my plane, just found this on the internet. The grain looks amazing, like a tiger. What wood is it?

    Canopy Roof Matterial

I'm planning to build a wee canopy/sitting area adjacent to the shed. It's pretty straight forward, 4” thick brackets from treated timber to hold the weight of the roof, and the sides will be done from treated t&g fencing boards. But I’m not sure what to use for the roof. I’ve seen some...

    Free Natural Sharpening Stone

Sorry for the click-bait title. I came across a pile of slate stones, brought a few home, flattened one and tried to sharpened a plane blade. I was amazed at the results. It's quite fast and gives a fine scratch pattern, few strokes on the strop and I was shaving hair. wow.

    Record No 078

Bought this the other day. Was playing with it today and I must say its very fiddly to set up, dont like the blade adjustment mechanism at all. I noticed that the rather than sitting flat the blade pivots on these two adjustment teeth, is that by design? And then when you tighten the lever cap...

    Different colour BLO?

Hi, Was wondering if there are(I haven't seen any) BLO products that contain stains pre-mixed? Or if there aren't, any recommendation for a stain that works well with BLO as top coat? Something cheap preferably. thank you.

    Old-Timey All Wooden Sliding Doors

I'd like to build a cupboard in my small utility room. I want to avoid hinged doors because they will cause trouble in such small space. I also would like to refrain from using modern sliding mechanisms. I'm looking for some advice regarding making all wooden sliding doors. Do I just cut two...

    Workbench Tension/Vibration

Few weeks ago I finished my workbench. Its an English style bench made with construction grade softwood, 3" top, 4" thick legs, two shelves, tool well, it’s 70" long and 30"wide, it weighs a ton I can barely lift one side. It's all mortise and tenon joinery. I messed up somewhere, the bench...

    Using Floorboards for Woodworking.

I have a pile of planed tongue and groove solid floorboards, mostly oak which are gathering dust. I'd like to make a wardrobe from them. Three problems I have with these boards, 1. they are varying lengths, mostly 2 to 4 feet. Will have to laminate to make longer boards. 2. tongue and groove, I...

    Creocote(aka creosote substitute)

Let me first say, this has nothing to do with is it as good as the original, I actually don't want the original tar in solvents thingy. At the moment I'm using screwfix decking oil to stain my external timbers, it's been great but my 5ltr tin is running out and the price of it now is £30. NO...

Secure a board to be planed.

Forgive me if this was asked before, I have no idea how to word it in the search tab. Dog hole alternatives? :? I just finished my workbench, flattened the top, about to start a new project. Want to plane a board that's too wide and too thin to place it in a vice. Was wondering what is the...

I made a rebate plane, but..
