Thanks. It plays pretty good. Got action down to 1.75mm with no buzz. It needs more fettling but I tend to do that over a week or 3 so I can really get used to it. By that I mean fine adjustments to the nut, bridge and trussrod. But as it stands I think its plays as well as any mass production...

Completed another guitar this afternoon, has taken around 3 months grabbing an hour or 2 in the workshop when I can. Multi laminate through neck design made from sapele, maple, ash and walnut veneer, with a single neck pickup - got some flat wound strings on order to finish it off.

Hi, I buy parts from several websites depending on what I need. Have a look through these, I've purchased from them all. https://www.axecaster.co.uk/ https://www.axetec.co.uk/ https://northwestguitars.co.uk/

I haven't posted much recently, however here is a guitar I made (along with all the spool clamps), very pleased with the end result. Was a lot of work over many weekends. Sapele body, with flame maple top and a maple and sapele neck with a scarf joint.

What is your pet peeve injury in the workshop?

Yep. Removed a chunk of skin from my little finger knuckle this afternoon.

Thanks It is Sapele, got it from my local timber merchants. It's actually 340mm wide, a telecaster guitar is 330mm, was pure luck they had such a large chunk in stock. I was expecting to have to join pieces together. Got enough left over to make 2 more 1 piece guitar bodies.

    Wanted No. 7 jointer plane

Thanks and yes. Too much time and effort went into the neck and headstock to hide it!

I have made another guitar over the last few months, some pics below. A few here may recall I started a thread about planing back in December last year. Well, I'm happy with how that has progressed, I was able to joint the body and plane it very flat, also hand planed the all the wood in the 9...

    Ziricote fretboard finish

I have a raw Ziricote guitar fretboard and I'd like to apply a finish. I have tried some oils and all they seem to do is smudge and darken the wood and reduce the effect of the lovely figuring. I Understand the wood it naturally oily Can anyone recommend a good finish that doesn't darken the...

    Wood filler

Thanks for the comments. it is on the edge of a guitar body, the outside of a curve. I have already sanded it smooth to 240grit. Will try a scraper and raising the grain but I have my doubts about that at this stage. Fiddes filler sounds like it would have done a much better job - will remember...

    Wood filler

Hello again I am working on a project that started with a nice lump of Ash. During routing I caught end grain in the wrong direction which caused some tare-out, frustrating as I could have avoided it had I taken more care. Anyway... I have tried to repair it with original tight bond glue mixed...

Why use a cyclone on your vac for power tools?

I have a diy cyclone system in my garage workshop (with pipes all over the place) its connected to a £50 shop vac, the vac is in a vented wooden box under my main work bench for noise reduction reasons. It has all worked a treat for 4+ years now. No bits in the shop vac or its filter and it...

    Anybody else love bandsaws?

Yes I does work. I always check it at both ends with a square before use and it is always, and stays square while cutting. Far better than the POS fence it came with. 100+ reviews on axminster website.

Advice on table saw that is "quietish"

Do not buy a Dewalt job site saw if noise is a concern. Ear defenders are mandatory ppe when using my DW745.

    Quiet random orbital sander

I have scrapers and drum sander attachments, I just fancy a random orbital sander to help with body sanding. I have dodgy left elbow so anything to reduce aggravation is welcome, plus it will get used for other jobs.

    Quiet random orbital sander

I'd like to buy a compact and quiet (relatively speaking) random orbital sander ~ 125mm / 150mm diameter. Mains powered preferred and with variable speed. Can anyone recommend one that’s quiet enough that ear protection isn’t required please? Ideally so you could talk over it when it's running...

    Anybody else love bandsaws?

I'm very pleased with my 10inch Record Power band saw, bought it 12ish months ago. It cuts straight with the right blade for the job and chops though 45mm thick guitar body blanks with ease. Here's a cut I made the other day at 12deg for a guitar neck scarf joint. A simple jig set to angle I...
