    What Wood Is This?

My work colleague has brought in a load of different turned ornaments from around her house, to query what wood they all are. I've figured all but the following out:- Its not one I've ever used or come across if I'm honest, but suspect this will be something really common and you good folk...

    Insurance questions

Commercial insurance claims is my day job, so I should be able to help. Re your first point, this is usually the case, but it depends on the lease agreement. Majority of the time the landlord will need to get this covered on his buildings policy if it's his property and not an improvement made...

Advice needed on valuing this workbench

I'm really sorry to hear about your Dad bluntsy. Have you any use for it all? or are you not really involved in woodwork at all? Where are you located? Is there more gear that you are looking to sell, and could open it up to woodworkers that might want to buy a few items in one go. I'd...

    Wood Identification

You hit the nail on the head, as the first thing I noticed was the almost consistent 'gouge' and woodworm like marks. The first thing I said to the Mrs is that they will have been added to give it a rustic feel. Re the refinishing. I'm planning to do exactly that, i.e. paint it in a flat ish...

    Wood Identification

Cheers Trevanion. I really appreciate your advice. Its very worn in places , so that definitely helps me in terms of stripping it back and refinishing.

Not a clue Andy. I picked it up from a charity shop dead cheap today, so I have no background information.

    Wood Identification

Radiata Pine is generally quite knot free in my experience, so I'm not so sure, as it has various. I'll definitely take another look to compare with some online images though. It weighs a ton (not literally but certainly more than an equivalent pine unit we have...by about 3 times as much I'd...

Hi Pete Its exactly the same throughout. All the same thickness and no man made board anywhere. It's very heavy, and took two of us to just about walk it into the house.

    Wood Identification

Sorry Phil, I've never posted a picture, so just realised after posting it said the attachment was too large. I've resized and reattached, so hopefully you should be able to see it now... Let me know if not, and I'll try to stop being dim and get it sorted :D

    Wood Identification

Can anybody confirm what wood this sideboard is made from? I'm thinking Teak judging by a couple of pieces I have in the workshop, but the lacquered finish and odd grain pattern in places due to how it has been joined is making me question it... Thanks in advance for your reply guys :D

What method/jigs are people using to set up planer knives

Hi Roy Those look really handy. I'd be interested in seeing if they are available for my Kity 1637 PT. Presumably you have to buy a self set holder for each blade you'll need, i.e. if you've got a 2 blade machine as opposed to 3 you'd add two holders to your basket plus two blades. It doesn't...

Charnwood W619 Or Axminster Craft AC216TS Table Saw

I'll need to see more reviews, and also see what Axminster do about the problem saws, but my initial idea of getting the Charnwood isn't looking like such a bad idea now...I really don't know what other options there are in this bracket to be honest. I'm glad I went with the decision to order...

Charnwood W619 Or Axminster Craft AC216TS Table Saw

Bodgers - Axminster advised me 22nd Feb for the saw and two larger bandsaws. The smaller two are already in stock. Nick - I agree. Frustrating, but there are so many factors that could cause those delays. I'm going to trust my gut on this, and hang fire for them as I'm just not overly...

Charnwood W619 Or Axminster Craft AC216TS Table Saw

A quick update guys. The new Axminster Craft saw is due in tomorrow according to the Warrington store. It will not come with the option of the extension table. I have decided because of this, that my current budget of £600 would be better spent on a bigger bandsaw. Therefore I am looking at...

Charnwood W619 Or Axminster Craft AC216TS Table Saw

Hi Tom It's home insurance that will cover a woodworker working from home that's the issue full stop so far for me. It's almost as if the only data they have is that we all just leave oily rags in a pile of sawdust along with leaving all the machinery running whilst we pop out to the shop...
