    Steaming wood

I think I have to accept the steaming isn’t going to work for this - just getting the wood was proving 3x the cost of buying one and as my landrover is broken I have limited ways of transporting something that heavy. I’m now considering using laminated glued ply and trying to figure out how to...

    Steaming wood

Ok, so I've never tried this before. My missus wants a hammock stand for her birthday in a few weeks. I thought I might try and make one - seen a lovely one that looks like 2 pieces of 75mm square birch, bent to a gentle radius, for the arms, then another two at the bottom the same with the arms...

    Tripping Table Saw

My table saw got a bit... overexcited... yesterday. You know, smoke coming out from underneath and everything. Now when I turn it on it spins up fine, cuts about 3-4" (of probably 1/2" wood) and then pops the fuse back in the house. Which is getting annoying to say the least! I assume I've...

    Router for table

it’s still £140 which is too much for something I may never actually use. I’ve bought a cheap 1/4” one that I know should fit the table. If it’s something I find myself doing more of I can invest more in future. Thanks for the advices though :)

Where can you get that from?

    Router for table

My table has the switch already. If it’s can get a refund I’ll go get the Titan. If not I’ll exchange for the Bosch but that’s an extra £30

    Router for table

Good point. The Wickes one did 1/2" as well. Hopefully I can get a refund - not sure where the receipt is. Screwfix has a Titan with lock off switch for about £5 more

    Router for table

I bought a router table and a Wickes 1500W Router. After an hour putting the table together, I attached the router. It didn't sit in the provided gap, and then I find it's got no power switch lock. So I packed it up, looked at the Bosch POE 1200 AF router. More money but the Axminster website...

    Removing pulley wheel from lathe

Got it sorted if not solved. Drove the drive rod from the inside out until I could get to the back of the lock, penetrating fluid and drove that out so I can unlock. It's still stiff but as long as I leave it unlocked we're fine. Drove the drive rod (and pulley) back in. Inner bearing is further...

    Removing pulley wheel from lathe

Think you could ping me a photo of the diagram so I can get it in my head?

    Removing pulley wheel from lathe

My NuTools lathe (late 90s, single round bar bed) has a problem: 1 - the pully outy bit that locks/unlocks the head stock pully wheel won't pull out far enough to turn - so I can't safely unlock the pully wheel. No problem - I'm a practical kind of guy. I'll just take off the pulley wheel and...

    Saw spot

They do scare me. In a way, not having a table saw makes me feel better!

    Saw spot

Was thinking about a chainsaw. What I have atm isn’t big enough to warrant. But for future.

    Saw spot

I think the saw needs to go. It was a tenner when I bought it - the screws to get into the motor housing are all torn up, it's got no fence - getting it working again is probably not worth the time it will take and it's just a guess it's the bearings. I figure a bandsaw would be more useful all...

Was a case of what's at hand Maybe I need to actually go look at one - I may be misunderstanding them

    Saw spot

So my (already old and second hand when I got it) table saw died today. It jammed and popped the fuse, banged everything I could, replaced the fuse, turned a bit (looking wobbly) and then popped again - I think something has eaten a bearing by the looks of it. Now I can't spring to much -...
