I tend to charge the same per hour that I do for the other work I do outside the furniture work (Professional Light Sound and Video systems) which is £30-£35 an hour.

    Help pricing work.

Hi all! I would really appreciate an opinion on how to go about pricing my work, in particular a project I have coming up soon. I’ve always struggled with this aspect of my small business, I can’t seem to get it right, always underestimating my time etc. This is a small project of just two...

    Finish for Oak Bathroom Vanity

Hi all, I’m building a solid oak vanity for a bathroom for some friends of mine. They are very particular about the finish and I’m concerned about it’s longevity. They want a finish that doesn’t change the colour of the oak at all and has to be completely Matt. I’ve been looking at osmo raw, it...

    Garden gate advice!

    Identify this wood someone??

Can someone please take a look and tell me what this wood is. I don't think it's anything particularly exotic but I've never worked with it before. I was told it was teak, but I'm really not sure. What I do know is its very dense, very heavy. Planes won't touch it unless they are stupid sharp...

Thanks for this. I knew Axminster was doing their version, you are right that does seem quite low spec. I spoke with balleigh recently and they don't have much stock of anything until after Christmas. Tendo tools seem to import them too along with some other interesting brands (steel city??)...

Incra ibox & British table saws

I had a similar problem with my Charnwood table saw and it's mitre slots. I ended up taking the cast iron top to an engineering firm that milled them out to 19mm for me. Cost about £100. I lost the "T” at the bottom of the slot but at least my mitre gauge and other table saw attachments work...
