Beginner's Project: Wardrobe + Wall Bed - Birch Ply

Just noticed the ‘false doors’ as the base to the pull-down bed (I take it that’s what they are) - neat (y)

Beginner's Project: Wardrobe + Wall Bed - Birch Ply

Cool, looks good. I’m also mid-project on a similar style (inset doors, handle pockets routed out of the carcass) run of cabinets in my basement - be keen to see how yours progresses. Which reminds me, need to update my old thread…

Removing play from plunge action in Dewalt Biscuit Joiner

I've had a tinker and and taken it apart - the play does seem to be along the slide casting / plastic slide pads (though they don't look too worn), I can't see anything else it would be. Thanks for that link @Spectric , I've ordered some replacements that will hopefully do the trick.

Removing play from plunge action in Dewalt Biscuit Joiner

Yeah, it looks like the plastic pieces that line the plunge slide are replaceable (they're held on with a bolt) I can't work out how to get to it, or even if replacements are available. I'll ping a note to Dewalt. Out of interest, do you notice any play in your machine?

Removing play from plunge action in Dewalt Biscuit Joiner

Or to add to the question - any owners noticed theirs developed any play over time? I'm wondering if the unit I got has been dropped or used a lot more than the seller suggested...

Removing play from plunge action in Dewalt Biscuit Joiner

Hi I bought a used Dewalt Biscuit Joiner and after a lot of fettling and tuning there’s still 1mm of play in the plunge action which easily leads to inconsistencies. Anyone know if it’s possible to tighten up the plunge action to remove the slop?

    Builder Depot - Birch Plywood

I was recently considering BD birch ply too and emailed them about their definition of B/BB with regard to plugs etc about 2 weeks ago. Got a very non-comittal reply regarding quality and was advised to see boards in person before I bought. Not possible as I live on the opposite side of London...

Advice and suggestions wanted for tricky space

So, the exercise of writing that post out seems to have done the trick of getting the approach sorted in my head… First, make and level plinths to the datum lines of the high points of the lower and higher sections, measure up to a laser line across the top where the continuous cabinet top...

Watching this thread with interest as I’m in the planning stages of a 5x3 workshop

Advice and suggestions wanted for tricky space

Hi, been a while since I posted, good to see so much activity on the forum. I want to build a run of cabinets in my basement, but the space they're going into is quite irregular and I can't work out the best way to approach it. The wall along which I want to install is like this: At the...

Tent / Marquee as medium-term workshop?

I just watched this vid from Charlie DIYte: where he's intending to use a heavy-duty pop-up workshop for the next few months. I have to do anything power-tools and most things hand-tools outside and am always at the mercy of the weather, so it piqued my interest. Having an mft / bench and...

    Does anyone else dislike routers?

For me they fall into the ‘necessary evil‘ category - mildly intimidating and a real pain to control. Guess that last bit is solved with experience, but they always seem to want to go where I don’t want them to.

Do things have to be millilitre perfect?

Hi I would say i’m in a similar position to you, in terms of where I am on this woodworking journey and the types of things I make. My space doesn’t allow me a permanently set-up bench with vice so earlier this year I got a track saw and a 3rd-party MFT top with bench / rail dogs and my...

    Building a laminate-faced plywood desk

I was going to suggest this - the office I work in has melamine-faced chipboard desks which have a ply-effect edge band, looks like ply but obviously lighter and less expensive

    First Project

Cool, thanks for the advice. I guess portability doesn't go with heft! As I don't have a dedicated space (yet) and I'm mainly power tools this sort of bench seems like the best option for me for now. Pax, looking forward to see what you make on it next 8)

    First Project

Looks good! I’m hoping to build something similar next year. Now it’s finished does it have the heft you were after? Would it be a suitable bench for attaching a vice to?

    Refinishing 60s GPlan teak veneer

Nice work on this! I need to sort out a teak veneered mid-century dining table that's been a bit neglected so will give your method a try. A liberal polishing has just left the wood looking faded so it seems the original surface has all but worn out.
