Let's discuss furniture design and fine work

You really should get some cream for that or maybe change your detergent?

Best looking (and sounding) workshop roof, under trees...

Metal is one of the best options for you. If you feel it needs to be quietened, have the inside sprayed with expanding foam which will also keep you warmer in winter. Skylights are available and a good idea, if you can, lift the tree canopy above your building to allow more light in.

    New plane is bladeless

Is everyone here really advocating sending the plane back? It is obvious to me that very few planes of this type will actually have a blade these days as the originals are as rare as hen's teeth. The body of this item is recycled, but not particularly well done, painting over rust is never a...

    Jewson Timber centre pricing

:D :D :D :D :D None of you have clearly heard of reclaimed timber? I have used reclaimed stuff for years. Providing you have a decent table or bandsaw you can rip down clear lengths of redwood to your hearts content, for a fraction of the cost of buying off the rack. For carcassing, my...

Triton MOF001 with Charnwood W014 Router Table

I have run this exact setup for 12 months and to be honest, apart from the safety plunger sticking on the router, it has been faultless. I regularly use the kit to run several hundred board feet of mouldings, finger jointing timber for tabletops and precise tenon joints, no fuss, no issues...

    Platter

Nice piece! When dealing with spalting, if its too soft harden it! I use either CA or Rotten Wood Hardener from Ronseal, sets like concrete and penetrates deeply. Turns easily too!

    Chuck wobble

Thank you all! I cured the problem. I replaced the insert for a new one from Nova. The runout on the spindle was negligible, the old insert, once fitted was threaded on the wobble being 20 thou out in opposite directions end to end - so a total of 40 thou! For EVERYONES reference : the insert...

    Chuck wobble

Can anyone help? I am trying to cure a wobble on my chuck. I have two chucks, both made by Nova. They have each been supplied with an insert. The one I bought with the lathe was old and well used but seemed OK at first until I turned a piece and then reversed it in the chuck to find it was off...

    New old lathe

Hi John, have a Mystro maybe you could help me? Do you have the bearing numbers for the headstock? All I can find are the Myford part numbers which bear no resemblance to the bearing type numbers I need. Also if I may could I ask which grease you use to lube them? Kindest regards Paul

    Myford Mystro Headstock Bearings

May be a longshot, but here goes. I have a Myford Mystro with a bearing problem. There is no end play on the bearings and it was running OK, then I lubricated the bearings in the headstock! I used a commercially available grease of excellent quality and I thought sufficient viscosity but the...

    Fungus and possible health issues

I always wear a good dust mask and visor whatever I am turning, whether it is clean wood or spalted.
