    intarsia

Just watched the video. Impressive. The eagle on top of the frame would make a good project on its own. The detail is amazing. The wood makes a big difference that they have available over there. A really nice piece of work that will be around for a very long time. Thanks for the link to the video.

    5ft Clydesdales and Cart Project

Very very impressive. I don’t think I would part with it after all the time and hard work that you will have put into it. How many hours work do you think you will have put into the project when it’s finished.. Will it be sold locally so that you can still see it occasionally as it’s a reminder...

    Bulldog and a Raccoon

Thanks Brian. The idigbo is the yellowish wood on the raccoon itself. I had never heard of it but it was cheap enough to try. It’s a little bit like tulip wood in colour but it has more pronounced grain. It’s apparently a cheaper version of oak. I used it on the bulldog but didn’t put any...

    Wood from skip

Yes it’s a red cardinal. You should make one Brian. You can always take it in if the wind is too strong. It’s a great feeling seeing it spinning around when you know you have made it yourself. I have made a few of these. Not had any plans from anywhere, just had an idea and made it. The red...

    Bulldog and a Raccoon

A bulldog intarsia made from sapele and idigbo wood which I bought a few months back from a hardwood store. Here’s another one made from wood I got from the same wood store. Bought quite a bit from there as it was a hour and half drive away. Only got offcuts but got some wood that I have never...

    Wood from skip

My brother got me a old pine table from a skip. It was only a small one, like a TV dinner table. I made this whirligig out of it. The wings were just some bits of pine skirting board that I had. It’s in the garden now but not had any wind yet to see it moving.

    New Hare Intarsia

Nice to see you posting again Brian. I learnt a lot from your post in the past involving intarsia. love the hare. Ebony piano keys. Nah. Only plastic round our end lol. Same as charity shops, all veneer. Used your look underneath tip. May drop lucky one day. I even chopped up a corner cabinet...

    Mustang horse intarsia

I think it’s bitterly cold everywhere now. Much too cold to be in a garage with no heater and the door wide open as I normally work. The pattern is out of a book. I think it’s judy gale Roberts or Kathy wise. The books in the garage at the mo so not sure which one it is. I’m not going in there...

    Advice on Hegner Saw

Hi I use a Hegner one single speed. I get a lot of blades breaking during the course of cutting out a project. I use all different makes of blades and don’t really notice any difference between them. They all break at some point. Sometimes a blade will last a while and then the next one...

    Mustang horse intarsia

Thankyou. It doesn’t seem as cold here today as yesterday but I’ve got a job I’m doing inside the house so maybe I’m not feeling the cold as much. I know they have forecast some very cold weather to come so it will be a while before I’m in the garage again.. Thanks again and stay warm.

    Mustang horse intarsia

Much too cold now in the garage to get any work done,no heating in there. Got this one finished a few weeks ago. This is before I put any oil on the project. Western red cedar mostly and tulip wood for the white parts. This is with the oil finish applied. Another view from the side showing...

    Hardwood shop in Nottingham

http://www.nottinghamhardwoodtimber.co.uk Here’s a link to a great little wood store shop I found. Hope the link works. If not just copy and paste. It’s in Nottingham and fairly easy to find. You have to ring first to arrange a day and time to go. I found the shop while I was searching...

    Cavalier dog intarsia

Just added the finishing touches to my latest piece. I started this in November but not been well enough to spend a lot of time on it. I modified a pattern I found. I put more hair pieces into the ears and altered where the ginger fur was so that it resembled the look of a dog that I used to...

    Claymore (Brian)

So sorry to hear this update on Brian. I didn’t know Brian personally but found his post on here very helpful in helping me starting this hobby. It was always a pleasure to see his work. I was saddened last year to read about the loss of his wife and the circumstances in how she died. I wish...

    been in my shop today

Glad to hear you are up and about. Sorry to hear about your fall though. I’ve just had a back problem myself and couldn’t walk for days. Had some physio which has helped me but still not right yet. The joys of getting old. It doesn’t help things as I have a physical job of work. You have to...

    Mill Creek Bridge

Hi George All I did was put the Danish oil on with a cloth and then I used some kitchen roll to wipe it over to get the excess oil off. Did this after about 5 mins. I left it till the next day before putting another coat on. I wouldn’t say it was shiny though, dull looking but nice. Made the...

    Mill Creek Bridge

Lovely work George. Looks great. What do you mean by buffing up. I’ve recently used Danish oil on some of my work, just a couple of coats.thought the finish looked good. Not done any buffing up though. What do you use to buff it and does it make a big difference. Andy

Question for Hegner Multicut 1 owners

The one I bought 2nd hand had it fitted and the previous owner said he had to fit it himself. I have seen a utube video of someone fitting it to the Hegner and it does not look too difficult. It makes a big difference when releasing the tension. Make sure you get the quick blade change clamp...
