    Milwaukee table saw

I think it's just changing times. Milwaukee had a real reputation for making strong tools and were something the local trades seemed willing to pay for. Older corded and brushed tools that I've used seemed to bear that out but a lot of newer ones have grey plastic where they used to have grey...

    Milwaukee table saw

This is very much worth watching. Dean Doherty looks to make his living out of repairing powertools. I'd give 100x more weight to his opinion than most youtubers when it comes to this. He doesn't say that Milwaukee are bad tools these days but he does say then aren't being made to be repaired...

New EU power tool battery rules from 2025

It is more expensive to repair some things than to make new ones. I imagine batteries fit that bill. Cheaper to make new and aspire to make enough from recycling to cover the cost of not putting them in landfill.

    Axminster AC254 table saw

Ask yourself : If it's light enough to move easily, is it heavy enough to be safe ? Is a bench top saw any smaller than an equivalent floorstander (generally no). Is a Chinese DIY saw going to last in a men's shed ? Unless the members are better trained and more careful than people usually are...

    Woodworm!

They burrow in and eat the timber for years before leaving. Treatments only kill / sterilise them on the way in or way out hence stopping the spread. They prefer softer / sap wood with nutrients, over hard heartwood. Your MDF is safe because there's no nutrients in cardboard. They are attracted...

Which I shamelessly copied when it came to the L5 :) I'm not dropping that again !

Alternative to the festool ETS EC150

Chris above nailed it. I also have an SXE 450 and it's great, especially for the money, but the vibration is quite high and it's heavy. A machine that wants to sit down flat on a horizontal surface. If you are already feeling the vibration and need something with light weight and good handling...

Planer thicknesser mobile cart 600 kilos

Those type of castors are very nice. Be aware that the castor wheels are quite small and quite hard. They roll well on a smooth flat floor but if you don't have something like tiles or ground and polished concrete, they aren't so forgiving. My own trick has been to keep eyes open for replacement...

Planer thicknesser mobile cart 600 kilos

If you have room to use a pallet jack they are great to have. Put channel under stuff to make it easy to slip the forks underneath but you then only need the feet, not the castors.

Planer thicknesser mobile cart 600 kilos

As encouragement, a couple of 800mm lengths of channel like this cost me a little over £50 from a local stockholder. Castors are pricey but 16mm or 20mm threaded steel rod for the screw down feet is available and it's easier to drill big holes than you might think. I've just fitted similar...

Planer thicknesser mobile cart 600 kilos

600Kg surely is a weight. Anything other than dead flat and I wouldn't be able to move that without real difficulty. For a planer, take the attached as a suggestion. Hot rolled Parallel Flange Channel can be bolted to the sides or underneath the base of the machine. Fit high load castors, or...

    Sold Small sheets of veneer

I won't get round to playing with these, so if they are worth a tenner plus postage at cost to anyone, I'll package them up rather than throwing them out. I imagine they will post for less than a fiver.

    Makita Orbital sanders

Me neither, but there are two specification documents and the docs have different numbers. It may just be that the same machines are being put through different test or certification. BTW. The 750W machines here are gear driven orbitals - like the Rotex - and very different from the "standard"...

    Makita Orbital sanders

Not knocking Makita at all, but @Spectric recently mentioned a Bosch orbital in another thread. It has only a 4mm orbit but has an isolated shell so the vibration is extremely low. As good as the best Mirka and Festool sanders. If your bonus runs to £250 that must be worth a look as it's an...

How much does wood weigh? Which is the better deal?

I bought maple from them most recently. They shipped it across from Leeds to Manchester for me to pick up.

How much does wood weigh? Which is the better deal?

I've never bought wood by weight. OK, it was sold as sawn timber by the cubic foot in my day, but priced by weight seems like a bad concept to me as weight varies with moisture content. If they store it badly or don't dry it to the correct degree then wood that is substandard by being too damp...

    Planer thicknesses for garage

I wouldn't offer more than the £600 on that green Sedgwick. The owner may have no understanding of machinery and has an unrealistic view of what it's worth. I personally wouldn't buy an Axminster or RP machine - full stop. Don't be in a hurry. Keep watching for a newer used Sedgwick or an itech...
