Oh no, another homemade router plane!

Whilst I'm taking up people's valuable time, here's a small one I made the day before using the Axminster small blade. This one is much easier as it just requires a round hole for the blade. A threaded insert at the back to take the securing bolt and that's it.

Oh no, another homemade router plane!

To answer a few questions: Straight Off The Ark - I did initially intend to groove the box section but, as long as the 90° at the front is perfect there is no movement of the cutter whatsoever. Custard - It will be bonded into a nice piece of hardwood with some nice handles. I didn't want to...

Oh no, another homemade router plane!

Hi. I'm waiting for the Axminster router plane to come back into stock. So I thought i'd make a router plane to put me on for a while. It's just a prototype on a bit of MDF and there are no handles yet but, i'm pretty happy with the results so far.

    Plane Fence Screws

Hi Andy, thanks for the info. They are same as the 778, or at least my 778, as i took them out and they fit both planes. Thanks again Paul

    Plane Fence Screws

Hi. Does anybody know what thread these are please? They are the screws that attach the fence to the rods on a Record 778 rebate plane and a Record 044C plough plane. I need to try and find a couple and I just need to know that i'm looking for the right thing. Thanks Paul

    Track saw ... drift.

If i'm just ripping down sheets or resizing, that sort of thing, I don't use clamps. If i'm doing something that needs real accuracy or its a n expensive material then I will use the clamps. The easyest way for me is place it on two tressles. That way the ends are always available for clamping...

    Cheap Metric T-Track

I've had this issue before. I always make a hand countersink by grinding a cheap drillbit to the right shape and dimension for my screw. Superglue it into the end of a piece of dowel and it's ready to go straight away. It takes two minutes and it's there everytime you need it. Easily cuts...

    Record 044C Plough Plane

Thanks for the info guys. It shows how much I have to learn about these old hand tools. It took me a while to see how the plane would work. I can't even begin to imagine what the other skate would do. Looks like I have a lot of research ahead of me. Thanks gang. Paul

    Record 044C Plough Plane

Thanks for that Thetyreman, I've heard very good things about them. Unfortunately, unless i'm missing something, he doesn't have them for the 044C only the 044. I realise I could mod them but,I don't want to buy something and then mod it. I would just make my own in that case. Thank you though...

Other rail saws worth considering, apart from Festool?

Hi Jimmer. I use one for work pretty much every day. I'm not a fan of the Festool at all. I know people swear by them but I just ended up swearing at mine. I think they are fine for a workshop type environment but not a site or anything rough. I use a DeWalt and it feels rock solid. Its...

    Record 044C Plough Plane

Oh ok, that's great news Andy thank you. So I assume they're all 3mm thick? As there's no cap iron as such, they are clamped sideways into a 3mm groove. Thanks for the info. Paul

    Record 044C Plough Plane

Hi Mike, thanks for the great info. It's all a bit new to me, i'm traditionally a power tool man but i'm trying my best to give the handtools a go. This is the chap in question:

    Record 044C Plough Plane

Hi. I’ve just got a Record 044C plough plane off eBay. It was a very good price but it only came with bead cutters. Does anybody know if any other make of cutters will fit it? I've been looking at the Veritas ones on Axminster. I'm trying to get a dimension from them but, haven't heard back...
