    Raised Beds

I have some raised beds to build 2m x 1.2m x 500mm. They will be more than just to grow veg in, they will be one end of a gravel area so I was thinking about using 6" x 2" treated, regularised timber with an eased edge. Mitred joins at the end. Glued and then stacked three high with a bit of 2x4...

    Edge Jointing 12mm Plywood

Thanks all for your ideas. Stopping short of the ceiling would certainly be feasible if the idea of using Mermaid board wasn't to cover up the old tile adhesive on the walls - which incidentally are made of straw sandwiched between two sheets of plasterboard. I suspect that MikJhn's shower is...

    Edge Jointing 12mm Plywood

I don't think that the ply is the best that it could be. Certainly not birch or anything like that. There are joiners available but I think it would look bit naff having a horizontal strip running all the way around so was trying to minimise the impact of having to cut the board. the join will...

    Edge Jointing 12mm Plywood

I have a need to join two pieces of Mermaid board edge-to-edge. This is 12mm plywood with a laminate face used as an alternative to tiles in shower cubicles. The shower room is too small to get a full piece in so the only solution that I can think of is to cut it in two and then rejoin once in...

Lock Rebate in Edge of Door

Is a router with a fence stable enough along the thin edge? I had though that I might need to make up a couple of right-angled pieces of ply for support with a fence attached to ensure a straight edge.

Lock Rebate in Edge of Door

Oooh. I like that idea - looks good. But, the rebate is already glued on so probably not feasible. But one to remember for next time.

Lock Rebate in Edge of Door

I need to install a pair of these: Ranges :: Zoo Accessories :: ZAS - Stainless steel accessories :: Lever action flush bolt - 20 x 150mm - Products into the edge of one of a pair of doors with a rebate. They are FD30 fire doors so solid (reasonably) but not in a fire door application. The...

    Bolts on Internal Doors

That is what was going to use but the bolt would be over the brass strip so I was looking for something a bit more slimline. However they seem to be a much rarer and expensive alternative. Probably worth it though for the saving in time just trying to get a hole in the right place.

    Bolts on Internal Doors

Just come across these: Recessed Flush Bolts (190mm) - Satin Stainless Steel - SD Hardware. Expensive, but look as if they would save a lot of hassle. They say log in for trade prices so they might be cheaper if I can find them elsewhere.

    Bolts on Internal Doors

No rebate - just a gap between the doors. And yes, the opening door will latch in to the closed door. The expectation is that we will only use the opening door unless entertaining.

    Kitchen Plinth Jointing

From the only reveiw of that item: I think that would be the first thing that I would try.

    Bolts on Internal Doors

Just to illustrate what I mean by the brass threshold strip. It is not the screw down type normally used on the edge of laminate floors. There is about 9mm from the nearest face of the door for the bolt to operate. Apologies. I should have cleaned the floor before taking the photograph.

    Bolts on Internal Doors

It's not the length that is the problem but that as far as I can make out (although exact dimensions seem to be rather sparse) a the hole for a recessed bolt in the floor will be over the brass theshold strip with porcelain tiles on the others side. Only the first 9mm under the door is hardwood...

    Bolts on Internal Doors

What is the norm for bolts on the second leaf of double internal doors? Just at the top or at the top and bottom? I now have a set installed see How Thick for a Door Frame and and one leaf is going to need locks fitted. The plan was to use flush bolts either on the edge of the door or on the...

    Hardwood Floor & Door Threshold

Thanks Jake. I had this mental block that there was some clever way that I hadn't thought of of getting a Multimaster under the boards without cutting them. But, a simple slot seems to be the way forward, especially if I can make the cut under a part of what will be the door frame so that it...

    Hardwood Floor & Door Threshold

Yes, but not quite sure how I can get it under the boards.

    Hardwood Floor & Door Threshold

Thanks all. So, it looks like I really need to lift the boards and relay them with some 'proper' adhesive. Caught out by Screwfix' dubious habit of ordering reviews by rating. So, next question. What is the best way to lift the boards that are already glued down? They extend under the plaster...

    Hardwood Floor & Door Threshold

Perhaps what I missed in the explanation is that this was only laid last weekend. There is no traffic yet. The boards were laid on the glue and and three pieces of 4x2 were laid across the tops of the boards and clamped with poles to the ceiling. The hope was that this would keep them level but...

    Hardwood Floor & Door Threshold

Nearly twenty years ago I laid a solid walnut floor on suspended wood joists. It still looks good although it could do with refinishing with a couple of coats of Osmo Polyx. Having now added an extension behind I have a gap between the wood floor and the tiled floor in the extension. This is...

How Thick for a Door Frame

Nice doors. Thanks for sharing. Fortunately my design is a lot simpler - to go with the more modern style of the house.
