    Tensegrity table

I only have about a 17cm gap in the centre. I think I did consider a turnbuckle, but thought that it would occupy too much of the gap, and then it wouldn't really look like a chain. Using the two eyebolts means that most of the non-chain is hidden inside the wood.

    37mm hole?

I've never used one, but I wonder whether this would work?

    Wet & Dry Sandpaper

I'm not sure how they compare to pack costs, but when I recently wanted 1 sheet in a variety of sizes I was pleasantly surprised by the price of Starcke Matador from MJ Sealants

    Narex chisels

I realised that of the DIY chisel set (1/4", 1/2" and 1"), I was using the 1/2" by far the most. Sometimes that is for precision dovetail work etc, but often it was just to make something roughly the right size or shape, kludging together some kind of jig, or to remove a sharp edge. So what I...

    Wood ID

Thanks all! I expect I'll make a thread on it at some point, but I don't think it'll be too exciting an instrument. I'm curious to know how it will end up sounding, though!

    Wood ID

Hi folks, I've had some reclaimed stair treads sitting around for a while, and thought I'd try making a simple lyre out of one. That got me wondering what sort of wood they're made of. Has anyone got any thoughts please? Here's a complete tread: and I cut a bit off the end and planed it a...

    Drilling tiles

I recently needed to make a hole for a new toilet roll holder. I started off trying to centre-punch a hole and use masking tape with a small masonry bit, but had problems with the drill bit wandering and tearing the masking tape up. What I found worked very well was starting off with a brad...

    Advent calendar

Hey folks, With Christmas just around the corner, I took a break from making tool holders, and tried to use up as many offcuts as I could making an advent-calendar's worth of little things for my wife. But the most exciting to me started off as an offcut from the garden a couple of years ago...

What is the name for this kind of door stopper?

I don't know if Google might be showing you different results to me, but none of those seem to have the short narrower section that would fit inside the pipe.

What is the name for this kind of door stopper?

Hi folks, A bit DIY rather than woodworking, but I wonder if anyone knows what this kind of door stopper is called, please? Our patio door used to have 2 of them, but one has disappeared and the other was in the process of disintegrating - a process I accelerated in order to get it off...

    GluBot replacement gaskets

Thanks all! I'll keep an eye on the website, but I've made a note to try M12 rubber washers if that doesn't work out.

    GluBot replacement gaskets

Hi folks, I occasionally have to remove the tip of my GluBot to clear out accumulated solidified glue. Each time I do this, I am reminded that there is a little gasket inside the cap which is looking quite sorry for itself. I have a pack of 5 replacement tips sitting waiting to be used, but...

    Sliding Mitre Gauge different slides

Finally, I hot-melt glued some bits of plywood onto the mitre gauge... ...to hold the hex key that is used to adjust the fence. The completed thing. You can see that the fence can still drop much lower, due to the slots that are in the mitre gauge, so raising the mitre gauge up on the plywood...

    Sliding Mitre Gauge different slides

I finally got around to finishing my attempt at this. Started off with a standard-sized mitre gauge from Ali Express; it was approx £70 back in February, but prices might have changed since then. Looks pretty square to me: Then I cut off the part of the sliding bar that is ahead of the mitre...

    Spiral Christmas tree

I marked the spiral on the cone, and used a half-round 150mm No5 48tcm rasp to get the spiral started. However, I found that rasp slow to remove material, so I went back to the Shinto to do most of the removal However, that didn't leave a crisp edge, so I did the final shaping with the No 5...

    Spiral Christmas tree

I came across a video on youtube of someone making a spiral Christmas tree: and thought I'd give it a go. Presumably the author doesn't have a lathe, as they use a bandsaw to make the initial spiral. I also don't have a lathe, but didn't fancy trying their bandsaw technique either, so I...

    Mini bench

Got some ash, and cut/planed a piece to wrap around the rear vice jaw: Then attached front and rear jaw liners. It wasn't until I was here, planing the tops flush with the bench top, that I realised that a 2cm thick rear liner was probably overkill, given that although it was wider than the...

    Holes in bandsaw inserts

Thanks all! I think I'll give the drill press a rest, and just leave them all solid, then :-)
