    design dilemma

No doubt you've experienced this yourselves.. visitors happen.. cast praising verbage over a completed project and ask "could you build one similar to that for me??".. project in question is a coffee / storage table lurking in the living room... umm.... how similar...?? maybe a wee bit...

    suitable stock.....

I've been asked if I could make a replacement hatch cover for a yacht... apparently the original iroko one has warped like a banana inspite of some heavy aluminium strapping added to it to prevent such a thing... I've minimal experience of exotics like teak etc so was wondering if there are...

    can I collapse now..??????

just finished stacking the latest haul from the saw-mill... 6 cube of clear oak, 6 cube of rippled sycamore that looks to die for... and about 12 cube of run-o-the-mill sycamore... Guestimated weight was somewhere around 350 kilos loaded onto the Landrover roof-rack... made for an interesting...

I'm only gonna do this once...

with maybe an occasional update... the ummm.. "first part" was mainly new lay-out tools, striking tools, measuring tools along with some new L-N's... To date, other than unpacking and de-packaging them I haven't had much chance to put them through their paces.. The Incra rules look like...

    Women.. sheesh.!!!!

Couple of weeks ago I let SWMBO loose on the puter, ordering the groceries online. Being her first time, I kept a close eye on her, checking the order myself before completing it... Given that I'm up to my neck in work right now, I didn't object when she asked if she could do it again this...

    strange thought....

Gepetto's thread in General re power v's hand tools got me thinking about my own.. I ran through m list of "don't really have an alternative" power tools and got to my sander.. The other day I'd cause to call Axminster; I'd bought a block plane from them (amongst other things) but unfortunately the delivery note read that the item was to follow.. No prob.. I'm in no hurry.. but by any chance, can you tell me how wide it is?? I'm making a tool cabinet, and while I can...

Hinglish or Murrican walnut; which is more stable??

A (hopefully) forthcoming project in the non too distant future has a requirement for seasoned, slow growth heartwood walnut, straightness of grain and dimensional stability far outweighing the importance of "nice" grain... Having worked with neither, can anyone advise which would be the...

    Which Bandsaw..??

Title says it all really... a little context.. As I've said before, my shop is tiny, real small, therefore I need to temper desire with reason; I need capability in a small footprint without sacrificing build quality. Capacity wise, I'm looking for "reasonable"... whatever that may be.. I'd...

This afternoon, home early from work so I took to thinking "quiet afternoon in the workshop.... civilised...!!!" That is... until the neighbours from hell cranked their stereo... you can imagine the din.. yon mindless thump....thump....thump racket that's so popular with the boy racers...c/w the...

    tuning a Clifton 3110

OK... I'm open to suggestions.. for the life of me I can't get the damn thing to cut flush much less square; corners are no-go areas and shoulders....well.... lets not go there.. Right now I'm so damn furious at the thing that..... if this is typical Clifton craftsmanship, it'll be my last...

    Woodworking books....

With getting on for four years hands on experience at making sawdust, shavings and (lately) chips, I find myself looking increasingly for information on specific aspects of woodworking, trying to cross the line that separates a beginner from an intermediate. While TV programs, magazines and...
